They already are. They are trying to say things like climate weirding and Obama's science advisor is advocating the use of 'global climate disruption'. However, I haven't seen a scientific argument that CO2 will cause higher variation without actually increasing temperatures.

It’s a scientific issue, not a political one. Approach the issue from a scientific stance and you might actually learn something about climates and climate change and then you wouldn’t embarrass yourself by asking banal questions.
I’ll keep it simple – ALL the world’s weather is driven by the presence or absence of heat energy. Any disruption to that energy balance is going to have consequences for ALL weather events.
A warmer climate has the potential to reverse Arctic weather conditions, it had never before happened but, as predicted, it first manifested itself in 2000 and has done so nine times since. When this happens the warmer parts of the mid and northerly latitudes cool significantly whilst the cooler parts warm up. It’s not that the area has become hotter or colder, just they there’s been a redistribution of heat.
Currently parts of the US are experiencing unusually cold weather and again it’s because of a redistribution of heat. Whilst it’s cold in the US it’s unseasonably warm in Europe (that’s where the heat has gone to). There is neither a net warming or cooling.
The current disruption is caused by an erratic Polar Jet Stream, it’ moved south across the US and opened the door to allow cold Arctic air to flood in from the north.
Movement of the jet streams is also governed by heat energy and again, if the thermal balance is modified then the jets become disrupted. This too has long been a predicted consequence of global warming.
By the way, what you’re experiencing is weather not climate and it’s local not global.
I don't know about liberals, but scientists will never blame record cold temperatures on global warming. Global warming only causes warming. Record cold temperatures are caused by weather. Without global warming, they would be even colder.
