Will photovoltaic panels work effectively in Aberdeen, a city besieged by enormous seagulls?

Seagulls can also tend to drop stones/shells on PV panels. Several installation have been all but ruined by this. I heard the explanation for why the gulls do this but I can not remember right now.

Have you ever tried walking down Union Street eating a fish supper? I’m sure the seagulls smell the fish from miles away then attack in military formation.

Being on the east coast Aberdeen doesn’t do too bad for sunshine and brightness so the PV panels will do quite well, the seagulls won’t have much of an impact.

One drawback – Aberdeen gets the long daylight hours in summer, when the PV’s are least likely to be needed, but gets the long dark hours of winter. All the same, once installed and hooked up the the grid they should provide a decent income. UK average time for recouping investment in PV’s is 8 to 10 years, should be about the same for Aberdeen.

No problem install some bird slaughtering windmills and the problem just goes away! But seriously if there's seagulls there's wind. And if it's cold look into heating your home with rocket mass heaters there stupid efficient, one guy heated his home over winter with junk mail. I'd go with fallen sticks. 80% of energy goes to heat or cool. Look up bill mollison global gardener cool climates and urban. Before trying to solve a problem try to see if someone else already has

Why not capture lots of seagulls and place each of them in some sort of container that can use their body temperature and convert it to energy? You could feed live seagulls intravenously from nutrients extracted from dead seagulls. And to keep them docile, you could link their minds via some sort of neural network or 'matrix' and run simulations of a nice little island with lots of cliffs to nest on and some tasty fish in the sea.

Oh there will be certain seagulls that have minds with odd neural activity that will allow them to manipulate the simulation, but you can place eagles as 'agents' to hunt them down before they do too much damage. Ergo, and concordantly, you produce small amounts of energy vis-a-vis not building this seagull matrix in the first place.

Depends on how much poop they bomb on your solar panels. And how many of them think your solar panels are a great place to hang out or nest. You could try covering your panels with bird netting about 1-2 feet above the panels, to discourage birds from landing and nesting on them. This would work best if your panels were erected on the ground rather than on your rooftop.

The seagulls round here like pooping! and they target reflective things like clean cars and shiny windows

How are your sidewalks?

Solar panels should be about the same.

It would be good if they were installed such that you could hose them off occasionally.

i would recommend a wind turbine instead.

i live on the east coast as well and our giant seagulls have ruined 2 of my brothers cars
