How well do you remember what the weather was like in your area 30 or 40 years ago? If you're younger than 50, you probably don't remember the weather that far back at all. Even if you're older than that, you probably remember it only dimly, unless you're a meteorologist or something.

It's a difficult question, because as you say, it's quite obviously totally bogus. It's very hard for normal unbiased people to understand what they think they achieve by helping those who only have their worst interests in mind.
Possibly because - unlike you - they know what the words weather,climate, and change mean.
Since climate is the statistics of weather, climate change is defined by significant measurable temporal-spatial changes in weather observations.

There is certainly nothing bogus about your ignorance - it's the real thing.
We used to believe in witches and shamans who could control the weather. Science put those dark age beliefs to rest.
Now science appears to be trying to prove that there is another way man can control the weather (i.e. by reducing CO2 emissions). People buying into this so readily is what I find very odd.
Because those folks trust the wrong people.
