You're on the right track asking about practical behavior that reflects actual beliefs. It's too easy to ask opinion questions that get pat answers that are just esoterically popular, and those don't give you a sample of reality anyway. Ask how much they walk/bike/bus to school/work (you've already thought of public transit), what are the extreme limits that must be exceeded before driving, what is their budget for food, how much do they contribute (time or money) to charity or volunteer work, how much they expend (including daddy's money) for car/gas/cell phone/computer/rent.

..what do you say about the massive energy and fossil fuel consumption of developing countries, what do you think comes first, development or the compromise?

..what about the intense contribution of usa and china and other nations for global warming agent emission? should other nations be feeling responsible or should these major contributors be made more responsible?

I'm writing a survey to gather information about students and their attitudes and behaviors towards living sustainably, reducing contribution to pollution, etc. What are some example questions I should include? The students are all college aged. Questions I have already are, are you a commuter, do you actively engage in recycling, do you think recycling is a useful process, do you compost, etc.

The questions can be anything having to do with opinions about environmental issues (like global warming) or asking them if they use services like public transit. Give me some ideas!
