Question about the global warming?

Sea level rise is not really a serious problem, estimates go from 1.70 mm to 3.2mm a year (not a lot) and what most people do not realize is that much more land is lost by coastal erosion, something that correct engineering could minimize.

Hawaii is a big Island and believe me it not going to disappear under the waves soon, one day it will, like some of the other Islands in the Hawaiian chain, but that will be by erosion with wind and rain which takes millions and millions of years.

Edit second thoughts.

There are some places in the world which are big and could acts as huge reservoirs such as the Qattara depression in the Sahara desert (19,599 km2) and Lake Eyre in Australia that are already are salt pans, if we could pump sea water into them it could make a big dent in sea level, plus we could have two extra inland seas.

First, Hawaii is not in serious danger.

Southern Florida, on the other hand, has a problem.

Hawaii is not flat.

Southern Florida is very flat.

And there are other areas of the world that are not much above sea level.

Bangladesh, for example.

As for building huge tanks, it's really not practical.

What really has to happen is to stop burning fossil fuel, and adding CO2 to the atmosphere.

But, how many tanks would it take?

Let's suppose your tanks were like big oil tanks.

Maybe 600 ft in diameter and 100 ft high. (that is BIG)

The volume of each would be 300^2*pi*100 =

The formula for the surface area of a sphere (earth) is 4*pi*r^2

For only 1 foot of sea level, the volume would be

0.71*4*pi*(4000*5280)^2

SO, it would take

0.71*4*pi*(4000*5280)^2 / (300^2*pi*100) =

140,000,000 tanks to hold just 1 foot of ocean water from oceans around the world.

That's about 1-1/4 tanks for every single family in America.

(and remember, each of those tanks is 600 feet in diameter and 100 feet high.)

There's probably not enough steel in the entire world to build them.

And, if the ocean rose another foot, you'd have to double that number of storage tanks.

What is the source of this rising sea level? Glaciers melting from one of the most hilarious trails of misinformation ever. So assuming global warming is actually happening and all the glaciers are melting the sea level would rise by 30 ft. flooding inland hundreds of miles covering entire states, right? Wrong. One of the things that apply to good ole' H2O is that when it melts it actually condenses, becoming smaller than when it was frozen. This means that if the small percentage of the ice currently above the water would be cancelled by the ice below rising out of the water as a result of it shrinking. What I mean is not that icebergs start flying but that as they melt they become lighter so they float higher in the water until they melt completely. So even if all of the icebergs and glaciers in the world melted there would not be much change. Now couple that with the fact that only about 1 1/2% of the entire world's water is frozen in icebergs and glaciers as compared to the 98% that is saltwater you end up next to no change in water levels.

Other than that there are other problems of getting hundreds of thousands of bureaucrats across the world speaking a hundred different languages to actually agree on something and then work together on it.

Hate to burst your idea but it is just not feasible.

I do agree about Hawaii being a great holiday destination though.

You should take a look at some of the stats on how big the ocean is- it covers nearly 71% of the Earth's surface. That leaves about 29% of the Earth covered in land. There is no possible way to gather the resources to build these tanks that would likely take up entire countries. You should look at different charities such as the Nature Conservancy who are working on large scale projects that combat global warming at the source. This is how global warming will be slowed, not by ignoring the problem.

There is 150 quadrillion tonnes of water on Earth. Even if you wanted to reduce sea levels by a few inches, these tanks would be the size of countries.

There has been no sea level rise in centuries. Plymouth Rock has virtually the same sea level as when the Pilgrims landed. We have artists conceptions of the seal level portion of the Thames going back to the 1400s and there has been no evidence of a rise in sea level. That is real, that is true.

Quote by Noel Brown, UN official: "Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of "eco-refugees," threatening political chaos." (Editor: Yes, he meant the year 2000.)

This is a sample of the hysteria caused by the UN, whose very existence is due to conflict.

Our heavenly creator is in charge and control of the ocean's sea level. And don't worry, he is not out for your money.

The right place to put that water is back where it was, as ice. That's the safest, easiest, best, least power and effort, and least disruptive thing to do. Every other option is far far more difficult, more expensive, and more disruptive.

Nice try but it wouldn't work

Why it happens?

Ok this is probably a ridiculous question but I'm gonna ask it anyway, why don't all the countries just work together and build massive water tanks and fill them with sea water to counter act the rising sea level issue? I know this would be a huge project but if every country did it then it might not be as bad and then we wont lose Hawaii under the rising sea! It's my favourite holiday destination and I don't want to live in a world without it.
