Are asteroids caused by global warming ?

LOL I had to ask.

There's a fairly far-fetched, slim-chance scenario that (I think) could make an asteroid hit us that otherwise wouldn't.

Basically, if you had an asteroid that was passing close enough to skim the atmosphere, the expanded atmosphere due to global warming *might* be *just* enough that atmospheric braking would be enough to make the asteroid hit the Earth instead of missing. But I'm pretty sure it would have to be one that otherwise would have been on a slingshot trajectory, rather than a direct strike, and there's a good bet that most of the asteroid would burn up in the atmosphere unless it was a huge one.

If an asteroid was going to directly strike us, global warming will not in any way change that. If the asteroid was going to completely miss us, or even if it was going to skim the atmosphere but not change direction substantially, global warming would be unlikely to change that. Only a slingshot could, hypothetically, be slowed down enough by the atmosphere to enter a decaying spiral orbit instead of just passing by.

The whole solar system can be effected by magnetic fields, the sun, and many other forces. This can cause a climate change for all the planets. Jupiter lost a stripe and no one knows why, could be due to it's own cycle changes. Humans may not have been around to see this, it might be a normal occurrence for our solar system. It's just another possible explanation for the movement and shifting of asteroids.

Remember the sun affects all, not just earth. Some links that talk about it different views...

Now you have done it, you will be accused by Phoenix Quill of being one of those "dead serious Socialists leading an army of useful idiots" for ASKING this.

This question has been asked a dozen times in this section of YA, so it seems more then enough people don't understand this and as such a valid question to ask on behalf of the viewers. And given that fox news climate coverage is (an astonishingly) 93% of the time wrong, quite innocent in comparison. To make it even worse, Fox News has gone to court to argue (and won) that they have the right to distort the news.

But to answer your question, no, as you already know, asteroids are not caused by global warming.

nope, asteroids exist mostly in the asteroid and kiper belts by jupiter and marsor well beyond our solar system asteroids are much more damaging than global warming a football field sized rock will hit with the force of a hiroshima nuke going off every second for a year, but are completely independent of global warming i assure you!

No. Asteroids are in space. The temperature on planet Earth does not create or affect them.

Someone named Rob assures us that the asteroid belt is well beyond our solar system.

Thank you, Rob. The asteroid belt is part of our solar system. Did you miss a few classes somewhere?

What's really sad is that Soledad O'Brien (a real journalist) gets fired from her show at CNN while this chick will probably get her own show in the future.

The thought did run through my head that it could be from all the satelites sitting up in space. I have a feeling that many things taking place has a lot to do with man misuing the earth and heavens. That is why Jehovah is going to bring ruin to those ruining the earth.

People become journalists because they aren't qualified to do anything else. Why is anyone surprised at the profound ignorance in the newscasters question?

No, asteriods are caused by breaking of stars and by the collision of huge masses.

LOL I had to ask.

yes, stereoids are caused by global warming. thats why there are so many sportsmen with stereoids, because of global warming.

lol!!

asteroids are space debris. it has nothing to do with global warming

No of course not.

Well CNN thinks so, and everything else is blamed on climate change so why not?

No

No, it is Bush's fault.
