Changes to US temperature data?

They used to put out the difference between RAW and ADJUSTED temps.I think they knew it was making them look like they were warming the present and cooling the past (which they were) though. If anyone can find any recent graphs of RAW and ADJUSTED it would be nice to see.

To my eyes, there is a clear upward trend in both. Part of my job is making trend lines for graphs to estimate when benzene or other contaminants reach zero. You probably looked at it closer than I. Selecting the interval is really important in this kind of graph. As I am sure you realize, you can have a perfect sine wave pattern in the graph but if you take a low and end in a high, it will show a trend so I don't think it shows anything that can be cofidently linked to our CO2 emissions. It seems to me the warming trend began right before 1980 which was the cool point in the last 50 years and it generally cooled from 1940s to the end of the 70s.

How can one person come up with so many useless questions. Got to be a world record.

1948-1998 reall hasn't much bearing on today but the fact the the global average temp has risen for 3 decades and ten out of the last 15 years were the warmest on record in 132 years.

Once again come up with some real climate science conducted by a real climatologist and you will be worth listening to until then, the history BS doesn't help much.

I get a 0.09 degF trend. Are you sure that you are setting the parameters correctly so that you are comparing the same thing?

If you down load the pdf you will see some very real problems with the temp. record data and methods of collection. This is not the pdf but is link to it.

Note the last sentance on your first link. interesting!

First thumbs down in less than one minute. New record? Obviously not enough time to link and skim read pdf.

Much to you global warming alarmist's dismay Earth's climate history did not begin in 1948. Earth's mean temperature was hotter 2000 years ago than now and has been on a steady decline ever since.

Problem with AWG theory is that it must define all natural climate history older than 500 years as an anomoly in order to have any degree of credibility to it.

Goverment is using HAARP to control the skys nothing new!

Let's start with James Hansen and his 1999 temperature report. In it he states: "Yet in the U.S. there has been little temperature change in the past 50 years, the time of rapidly increasing greenhouse gases ― in fact, there was a slight cooling throughout much of the country (Figure 2)." http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/hansen_07/

Figure 1 in the above reference shows the contiguous US temperature graph and just by eyeball it does indeed look like the past 50 years (1948-1998) were flat or cooling. However, if you go to NCDC to check on the US annual temperatures for 1948-1998 you find that there was a strong warming trend of 0.15F/decade. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/cag3/na.html

Does anybody have an explanation for this? It's possible that Hansen uses different data than NCDC but his newer US graph also now shows warming from 1948-1998: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.D.gif
