Think of it this way. Take a 50 lb block of ice and 50 lbs hot water, place them in a closed system and apply heat. The temperature of that system will go up until the ice reaches 0 degrees C at which point the ice starts to melt. To this point the heat of the system has gone up. It requires much more energy (latent heat of fusion) to melt the ice than it does to raise the temperature of either ice or water. Until that ice has melted the temperature of the system will actually go down. Once the ice has gone the temperature of the system will again begin to rise. Apply that to the melting ice caps and that may give you an idea of what is happening.

The severe Winters many denier like to try and play up are a pretty localized event and due to local conditions this years Northern Winter saw Snowfalls in the U.S., primarily just the Eastern U.S. and in France and into Germany. But look at the global picture and you see why denier cherry pick out those regions in recent questions, because for 2013 globally (not just the U.S.) we had the 4th warmest year on record, Australia had it warmest year ever on record. You can see the cooler areas in the U.S. and a small part of Europe that is all deniers want to talk about (i.e. the blue bits) while they try to completely ignore the rest of the world which was for the most part above average. The weather patterns will become more and more erratic. As the artic melts, fresh water is dumped in the steering currents, such as the Gulf Stream. The desalination and the cooling of the steering currents, pulls and pushes the jet stream, causing gyrations. These gyrations flip flop air pressures systems, making the weather patterns extreme. Whether natural or man influenced, the earth is warming. In the last 600,000 years, CO2 levels have been off the charts the last 40.

No one can deny the awesome and evil power of climate change. Our great preachers of climate change scientists have told us that any and everything can occur because of climate change, so who could possibly argue with that?
