Is climate change a bigger threat than terrorism?

I have to write an essay on this.

Not only bigger, it is also related and experts foresee an increase in terrorism as a result of climate change.

Already in 2004 the Pentagon called it a "[t]hreat to the world is greater than terrorism". [1]

A 2006 advisory report by the the Pentagon and the Center for Naval Analyses's (CNA) Military Advisory Board called it 'a threat multiplier for instability in some of the most volatile regions of the world' and labels it as a National Security Threat. [2]

The Pentagon's 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review states: "Climate change and energy are two key issues that will play a significant role in shaping the future security environment. Although they produce distinct types of challenges, climate change, energy security, and economic stability are inextricably linked. The actions that the Department takes now can prepare us to respond effectively to these challenges in the near term and in the future." [3]

The US National Intelligence Council in its 2012 report titled "Global Trends 2030" writes: "Demand for food, water, and energy will grow by

approximately 35, 40, and 50 percent respectively owing to an increase in the global population and the consumption patterns of an expanding middle

class. Climate change will worsen the outlook for the availability of these critical resources. Climate change analysis suggests that the severity of existing weather patterns will intensify, with wet areas getting wetter and dry and arid areas becoming more so. Much of the decline in precipitation will occur in the Middle East and northern Africa as well as western Central Asia, southern Europe, southern Africa, and the

US Southwest." [4]

Remarks delivered on March 12, 2013 by James R. Clapper, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (regarding Climate Change & Demographics):

"Food security has been aggravated partly because the world’s land masses are being affected by weather conditions outside of historical norms, including more frequent and extreme floods, droughts, wildfires, tornadoes, coastal high water, and heat waves." [5]

"Global warming could destabilize "struggling and poor" countries around the world, prompting mass migrations and creating breeding grounds for terrorists, the chairman of the National Intelligence Council told Congress on Wednesday." [6]

yes even Stephen Hawking thing so. Climate change is a bigger threat to life on this planet. go watch "The 11th Hour" or read "Save the Planet by Voting."

Short term, terrorism is the bigger threat.

Long term, AGW is.

Your grandchildren's grandchildren will likely not care what we did or didn't do about terrorism, except as a historical curiosity. But what we do, or don't do, about AGW could easily still be affecting them.

Levels of threat the world:

Climate Change = 0

Terrorism = 9

Governments = 10

No But climate change has some effects like drought causing water shortage that could contribute to internal terrorism

For example by 2025 Yemen will likely be out of both oil and water. As the country nears that point, there will likely be tribal feuds that may spark some internal terrorist activities as one tribe will seek to control the remaining oil and water

The damage caused by terrorists is limited. Probably the most destructive act by terrorists to date were the 9/11 attacks. As appalling as those attacks were, only a few buildings were destroyed. This would be insignificant compared to the effects of rising sea levels. Hundreds of millions of people could lose their homes.

There are different levels of threat. There are existential threats and lower level threats. Terrorism isn't something that is likely to seriously threaten the environment unless they acquire nukes. Personally, I haven't seen convincing evidence that our CO2 emissions are that big of a threat. I am more concerned with terrorism even though I don't like the word. I prefer to call it what it is, radical Islamists trying to force their religion on everyone else. They don't terrorize me. In fact, it is them who are running and hiding in caves.

Note: I notice that alarmists can't seem to help coddling terrorists. They behave more like old women. No offense to old women. I would rather have the old women at my side any day. They have way more huevos.

Both issues are very important but climate change is very crucial to existence and well being of humankind.

They're both equally harmless

No, that's ridiculous in the long run. Thought climate change and terrorism can "help each other along" as climate change could result in mob mentality, and terrorists could try to control resources, which could affect climate change.
