When will NASA send people to MARS?

I heard on the news once that sometime in 2016 or so, they're going to get some people together to start training for a one-way trip to begin colonization on Mars. Not sure if it's really true or not but it seems pretty interesting.

Here's an article:

"I really think sending a camera in space for 10 million is pointless"

How is it pointless? That camera is going to give us information for several years barring any damage.

Putting money into a manned space mission to mars for an idea that will never work out and having it cost trillions of dollars is pointless. They are NEVER going to terraform mars. The cost would be far beyond any governments ability and very likely beyond the ability of all governments put together.

Going to mars isn't like going to the moon. The moon is fairly close to earth. The trip to mars would take almost two years. Everyone wants us to be able to live on other planets. Reality is often a different story.

When the government makes sending people to Mars a priority. Perhaps what is needed is another cold war. It was a rivalry with the Russians that stimulated the Apollo program to put men on the Moon.

Some folks believe it already has happened. If you think NASA is honest with the public, perhaps you should look into it's track record by listening to some of its' past employees.

Wouldn't it be fun to 'volunteer' someone for that one way trip?

Al Gore would top my list.

Never.

It would be a one way trip and nobody can be asked or tasked to kill their self.

I really think sending a camera in space for 10 million is pointless or even putting up a mini space station near earth is all a big waste of money but if you would put your money to good use and send men to MARS and set up camp to live we could set up a new place to call home wouldn't that be amazing!
