Does peer pressure affect your thinking on global warming?

Either for or against?

Do you think that people who have a different view than yours are affected by peer pressure?

Peer review adds credibility. It is hardly flawless, but with thousands of articles per year, even advanced specialists cannot independently read and evaluate each one. A reasonable first approximation is that a peer-reviewed publication is probably valid, and a non-peer-reviewed one is unclear. If the author of climate related item is an hired denier (here is one reasonably accurate list of them: http://www.desmogblog.com/global-warming... ) and the publication is not peer-reviewed then the odds of it being fossil fuel industry BS are higher.

Peer pressure on the other hand has nothing to do with science or truth or facts. Peer pressure might be valuable, say for soldiers in a combat zone where conformity and blind obedience are highly desirable, but would have no bearing on the validity of a century of climate science.

No.

I think that others from either side might bend to peer pressure if they are weak and uninformed. I don't have any kids and I'm probably going to die within the next 10 years so it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, but still, i find the earth to be an interesting place and would prefer it to be a happy place for future generations.

Not really. I tend to think for myself. That being said, if someone is extremely emotional about a topic I tend not to discuss that topic with them. Obviously this site is the exception.

Peers can be influencing in any situation.

No. I feel no compunction to agree with any particular viewpoint.

I do allow logic and knowledge of science fo affect my thinking, though.

Nope.

I have no peers, I am the Sage!

NO ITS REAL DUE TO OUR POLLUTING OF THE EARTH...WE NOW HAVE HOLES IN OZONE CAUSING SKIN CANCER...HOW SAD..

Not for me.
