The rise is very consistent with the slight temperature rise that has happened since the early 1900s. If they thought they could get away with it, they would show a more extreme graph by presenting a lower gradient (0.05C instead of 0.1C). I wonder how dramatic of a scale it would be if sea levels were graphed out in decimeters? ... or with a 3 inch gradient?

Yes, the reason is that the working scientists like to be sure that they are retired and that their pension is safe before anyone rumbles them.
The only problems I can remember seeing about sea level rise all turned out to be something else. Either the community was built on a sand bar that could have no expectation of being permanent, or, more usually, the locals were doing something to affect the water levels by either extracting water or doing other things that caused instability.
Keep in mind. A lot of what's going on is coastal areas and islands being rendered unliveable because of rising sea levels, not necessarily the islands themselves disappearing under the waves. As sea levels rise, even a little, coastal and island aquifers and coastal and island soil can become salt-poisoned, and thus undrinkable. As sea levels rise, even a little, storm surges become more important. And so on.
Also, keep in mind that that graph represents about 20 years. On a geological scale, that's an eye-blink. There's a reason that we tend to talk about 30 years as the minimum scale for something to be climate rather than weather.
