UREGENT!!! What caused the east Africa drought?

Posted at: 2015-03-12
I need to know ASAP as i need it for a school project. I need at least 4 causes and some of them linking to global warming

Global warming could effect precipitation, wind direction and ocean currents. Yes, all these things have happened in the past, but global warming tends to make such things more frequent and severe. Global warming does not cause deforestation, nor is it caused by deforestation. The biological carbon cycle is balanced. The carbon dioxide absorbed by plants is returned to the atmosphere by organisms that eat plants.

Yes, tell that to your teacher; not because he/she wants to hear that, but because it's the truth. Some day you will meet someone who wants to hear that global warming isn't even happening, like the denialist, Portland.

Isn't that common knowledge, like the sky is blue. Oops! I almost forgot to put in a link.

I thought that "skeptics" did not belive in climate models. It has now been shown that warming leads to fewer clouds. And fewer clouds means less rain.

And you claim that it is a rediculous position without any support at all. Or maybe not. Here is your source.

El Ni?o gives us a picture of what a slightly warmer world would look like.

Effect of global warming on winds. (Some good news about wind power still being viable, if you believe models.)

Effect of global warming on ocean currents.

From your link

"Alarmists claim..."

"I need at least 4 causes and some of them linking to global warming"

What if Global Warming was not a cause? How could you link anything to Global Warming then?

One temperature chart, linked, shows that the temperature was pretty constant for a number of years. Were there droughts in the other years? It looks like the same temperature this year as well. Is there another drought?

Also, it was much, much warmer in the past.

This probably won't get you any marks but is true nonetheless!

Linking any of the causes to global warming is a stretch, http://insights.wri.org/news/2011/08/fam...

but if your teacher wants that, just say it is caused by global warming, or look at what causes it, and say that is caused by global warming no matter how ridiculous. Warmists love that. [1] Your teacher is obviously a Warmist, and she will not question the technique.

Causes:

1. Reduced precipitation: Here is a link that actually blames El Ni?o for the drought! http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2009/12/...

El Ni?o is supposed to make East Africa wetter! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:El_Nin...

2. Changes in Wind Direction http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/abs/10.1...

3. Ocean Currents http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/201...

4. Deforestation http://glopolis.org/en/articles/energy-e...

Edit: Excellent! Climate Realists provides an excellent example of Warmist science. He states that global warming affects the things that alter rain patterns, but fails to show how global warming sends those factors towards drought in East Africa. Actually, Warmist models predict that global warming actually increases rainfall in East Africa, http://notrickszone.com/2011/09/15/ipcc-...

but no need to include that in your report. However, if you want to see where the IPCC mapped all the 17% more rain that East Africa was going to get due to global warming, check out page 869 to this 2007 TAR: http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report...

Climate Realist also states the ridiculous position that global warming makes all that weather more extreme without any support at all. As such, he has provided you with an excellent example of Warmist "science". Follow his instructions, and write your paper like his excellent answer for a good grade.

Note that La Ni?a has been active lately. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Soi.sv...

She is thought to cause East African Winter drought. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:La_Nin...

Just so you know, La Ni?a is the opposite condition to the ENSO as El Ni?o. [2]

The winds determine Orographic precipitation or drought [3] depending on where the mountains are. [4]

Edit @Climate Realist: The position that ALL weather gets more extreme is a gish gosh that requires many sources to defeat on each type of weather. Thus, here is a review of such. [6]

Edit2 @Cliamte Realits: "Alarmists claim..." - Point taken. Here is an insurance industry study of extreme weather trends. [6a]

Climate variability, its a predictable anomaly. Unless of course your a full blown alarmist. Then its nothing but AGW:

Your teacher is invoking you to answer his or her way or you will fail?

Rio nailed it! It's called "Natural Climate Variability" (i.e. lack of clouds, change of air currents, proximity to the equator, and the sun)
