Tax the atmospheric carbon potential (CO?) of all products and make certain that ALL of it is returned as cash payments to all citizens uniformly each year (and none of it is used to line the pockets of politicians or used to fund bridges to nowhere.) Those who choose to burn more than the average levels of CO? producing products will wind up paying a higher share than others for the privilege. Those who choose to burn less than the average will wind up profiting from the choices they made. Might even include a small non-linear, more geometric payback scheme so that those under the average profit a lot more than a linear design would have it. But under no circumstances should any of the tax receipts be permitted to be retained for any gov't purpose other than refunds directly to citizens. The temptation to do otherwise at the gov't level will be high, but must be firmly resisted. Otherwise, graft and corruption will undermine faith in the entire concept.
Instead of putting general global warming signs, I think it'd be helpful to make consumers aware of whether or not the pump they are using has a vapor recovery system to prevent fuel from leaking into the air. Some gas stations do, and some don't, and this could encourage people to use those that do, and gas stations to install vapor recovery systems.
for me it would make no difference, as I dont drive and live a carbon responsible life, and doubt it would make a difference to those lazy people who drive a 20 mile round trip instead of talking a 20 minute walk to drop the kids at school, lazy people wont change unless their situation changes, like making it too expensive for them to drive. Either way the sign will have minimal impact unfortunately.
I'll settle for a Recycled Wattsup anti-science BS warning on the last several hundred of your "questions."
I couldn't care less as they won't have any effect whatsoever. The only problem is I have no doubt that placing 5 cent stickers on gas pumps could easily skyrocket into the billions of dollars that taxpayers have to shell out. The Canadian government couldn't build one frigging DATABASE for less than 1 billion dollars.
You mean like on the cigarette packages?
Which reminds me; I'm glad that James Hansen is retiring with the Democrats in power. We can expect James Hansen's replacement to be someone like Gavin Schmidt or Andrew Dessler or someone else who doesn't have the tobacco industry or a phony claim about being in the House of Lords on his/her resume.
The Lear Jet Leftists expect to form the core of the global Green Inner Party. They will continue to enjoy the finest foods and most advanced gadgets the world has to offer -- while deciding your fate for you.
If you work very hard and show them your unwavering loyalty you may be permitted to join the global Green Outer Party. You will be allowed occasional servings of meat - and air conditioning on a rationed basis.
The rest of us will eat beans and swelter – ‘for the good of the planet’.
Not a bad idea, because people will look at the sign and remember to reduce usage of vehicles.
besides, we must keep reminding people to reduce the release of CFC's into the atmosphere!
I think you'll get more conservation if you post how much of the price are taxes.
we have bigger problems

18 year old Christopher Lee is impressed by the idea. He says it wonderful idea yet sophisticated.
