How come most people dont care about Global Warming?

Is it because its hard to believe?

There is no credible, unmanipulated, scientific data that supports the notion of Catastrophic, Man-caused, Global Warming......None.....Period!!

I think a lot of it has to do with scope and scale.

AGW is a world-wide, long-term issue. Any individual person's actions are, for the most part, a drop in the bucket (there are 7 billion or so of us by now, after all). So, a lot of people see it as a less urgent concern than, say, rent, or what to make for dinner.

That also ties into why a lot of people believe (or pretend to believe) that it doesn't exist. They can't see significant change in their own back yards, both because weather is "noisy" (lots of ups and downs) while the changes are fairly small, and because the change is not spread uniformly. So, it's easy to look around you, not notice any change near you, and think that therefore there isn't change happening anywhere.

As to why else people don't believe? I think there are a few things going on there.

1. Confirmation bias, and similar brain tricks. Our minds tend to reject "unfriendly" information, however valid; http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2011/0... discusses the matter at length.

2. Lack of scientific understanding. Climate science is kind of complex, and some aspects of it aren't very intuitive ("How can it be snowing, if there's global warming?" and so on). Some people disbelieve what they don't understand. (there's something of the same problem with evolution)

3. Flat-out lying, or at least trusting a lying source. I suspect at least some people who deny global warming are skewing (or even blatantly faking) information because reality does not match their political biases, and/or because they are trying to protect some income source or the like that could be threatened by action to stop AGW.

No. Any sane person who has seen images of the Arctic in recent years isn't going to find it hard to accept the reality of global warming.

It's a question of priorities. Most people actually do care. But they are faced with two simple facts. First, there's only so much most individuals can do. Second, there are other and more immediate concerns that must take precedence in their lives -- work, paying the bills, etc.

Not true.

Between 80% and 90% of the people who smoke never get lung cancer.

On the other hand, about 90% of people who die of lung cancer have smoked and 100% of them have drunk water. Does that mean that water is more likely to cause lung cancer than smoking?

Aren't statistics wonderful?

Obama said that questioning the catastrophic anthropogenic global warming theory is like saying the Moon is made of cheese.

Lets see what Dr. Richard Lindzen, atmospheric physicist at MIT had to say at a lecture in Germany, on April 10:

Most people have more immediate concerns such as buying food, paying the rent, medical insurance and the co-pays, gas for the car, employment etc.

Because we will all die before anything major happens.

Global warming will take millions of years to cause any major catotraphic event

They quit caring when none, not a single one, of the alarmist predictions and projections has ever comet to fruition. The boy can cry wolf only so many times before he is exiled from the village.

because people are still engaged with their personal life, business and profit making activities they really dont wanna care what it may lead to so it might be they are ignoring it

I'm not sure it should be something you have to believe in. It is either currently a fact or it is not.

Is it because its hard to believe?

They don't understand it.

The US has fallen behind at least 2 dozen other countries in math and science skills

and i think one of the reasons is the republican and religious right's war on science

therefore they should be outlawed.

major happens

Climate chage has been happening as long as this planet has been spinning around its Sun. There is NOTHING we can do about it to either cause or prevent it.

because people only have eye for money those days and ignore everything that keeps them from getting money so they don't want to pay for environment friendly cars and devices

Perhaps you don't get out enough?

if you smoke you get cancer

if the world smokes it get cancer
