I don't have kids, why should I give a fizzle about global warming?

"There is no specific day that will come. It's a matter of time. I don't recall international, overwhelming scientific consensus about Y2K as an enormous threat. I remember a lot of media hype. This is very different. Global warming is very real, but I don't have kids so it won't impact me much."

When I started computer programming, memory was expensive. Nearly everyone used 2 digit dates to do date sensitive calculations. Eg bank account and mortgage interest, and life insurance costs and benefits. It really was a huge and important task to fix all of those programs and data files. Anyone who thinks it wasn't, doesn't understand. Anyone who promotes that it wasn't is a liar.

I'm 73. I'm going to be dead. I do have a daughter, but I won't live to see how it impacts her. But even if I didn't have a daughter, addressing global warming would be the right thing to do. It's important, not because of how it affects me and mine, but how it affects the whole world.

Morality that is self centered isn't morality. It's greed. That's not how I like to think of myself.

Stubby is a good example of an alarmist, a garden variety socialist. He supports anything that creates bigger more intrusive government and declares that anyone who wants to protect actual people, the individual, is uncivilized and primitive. He worships the state because he has lost all other higher meaning in his life. His morality has become simply to grow the state at the expense of the individual. At the end of his grand experiment, he will have a powerful state that isn't moral or decent or caring.

There is NO **man-made** Global Warming and there has never been any.

What global warming? It's been cooling for at least 12 years according to HadCrut3 & HadCrut4 is nearly flat. http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut...

According to RSS Satellite data there has been no warming for more than 18 years.

You shouldn't. So-called "global warming" is this century y2k bug. The day will come and nothing happens. Everyone pats themselves on the back for a job well done.

John Donne said it better than I could:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man

is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;

if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe

is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as

well as any manner of thy friends or of thine

own were; any man's death diminishes me,

because I am involved in mankind.

And therefore never send to know for whom

the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

For the same reason I'm not allowed to open a target range in front of your house, smoke inside, or spray DDT all over the place.

Well because it will affect you as much as it will affect people's children . You could get all kinds of diseases and you will not have enough food and clean water in the future , there wont be any more resources for you to fullfil your basic needs and everything will get really expensive. Global wRMING is affecting us now more than it will affect us in the future .

Do you have any nieces or nephews? Any younger people that you're fairly fond of? Any dear friends who have kids? Any abstract interest in the human race and/or the fate of your preferred civilization?

Because believing in global warming will allow governments to impose all kinds of regulations and taxes on us, and probably drive the country into depression.

Because 7 billion people will be affected.

Because the natual world as we know it will change.

Why should you care about fairy tales even if you do have kids

cos if you dont you will frizzle...incrementally with occassional Jolts..more often than before..good luck

Well, You have siblings who have kids.

your country will.
