Where does John Kerry get his facts?

I wouldn't call it honorable to exaggerate when it comes to science and I don't think his end goal are all that noble but I have no doubt the vast majority of alarmists think it is.

If they simply stated what the 97% really represents, everyone would yawn and move onto something else and most have anyway. In order to use it for a political issue, they have to get as many people worked up as possible. They do what politicians typically do, they exaggerate (nice way to say lie).

I think you were asking any alarmist if they would simply admit it and it would be amazing if they did. I can't decide if it is because they really believe or because the cause is too important (or both).

Most likely he is referencing the Anderlegg study of actual researchers published four years ago in the Procedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Anderlegg et al looked at the researchers who were most cited by other researchers -- and that is the standard measure of importance of scientific papers, it shows which papers other researchers believe are on the cutting-edge of science in the specific field. They found that 98% of the most active and most important researchers were in agreement with the primary conclusions of the IPCC.

The Aderlegg study is in agreement with other studies that have tried to measure the degree of agreement. Basically, everyone who has tried a disciplined measure has come out at the same place.

>> Just one small example. They state in their first graphic the Petition Project is "Declaring their opposition to human induced climate change theory". Let's look at their actual declaration in it's entirety:

Update 2: "We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

Update 3: There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."<<

Let’s ignore the bogus Petition Project and just look at the statements.

Update 2: The total absence of evidence for this statement is sufficient to discredit it without the need to question the sanity of those who wrote it.

Update 2: This is total Bullshlt denial of the science – not to mention stupid.

He probably got his facts from Greenpeace

77 Scientist is the 97% and John Kerry and the word facts do not mix . He lies all the time

"To capture the public imagination,

we have to offer up some scary scenarios,

make simplified dramatic statements

and little mention of any doubts one might have.

Each of us has to decide the right balance

between being effective,

and being honest."

Stephen Schneider

Apparently, John Kerry has decided being dishonest is the most effective way to get things done.

He needs to remember what his mother told him on her deathbed,"Integrity, Integrity, Integrity."

Yet the arrogant man decided to tell this story to us as if it made him look honest.

Less than 1/3rd of this 97% are perpetuating this nonsense. The majority of the scientists believe that humans only "have an effect". The simple fact of the matter is that every century has either warming or cooling. This has been happening for many centuries. Differentiating between natural and anthropogenic forcing's is still well beyond climate science's understanding and the IP CC has always stated that. There has been a lot invested in the alternative energy market. John Kerry seems to have a knack and a taste for being an investor himself. Check his portfolio. You may get a real answer there about why he is touting such an urgency!

I am pretty sure it is from the Dorkster.

At Boston College's 138th Commencement Ceremony, John Kerry gave a speech. In it, he stated:

"Ninety-seven percent of the world’s scientists tell us this is urgent." http://www.newsroomamerica.com/story/422451.html

Who are these "world's scientists", what is "this" and what consensus study did "urgent" come from?

You know what would be honorable? If somebody just came out and flatly stated that twisting the facts a little to get the message across is completely fine as long as the end goal is noble, just and moral. Anybody got the cojones to do that?
