What have you learned about global warming?

Global warming has become

perhaps the most complicated

issue facing world leaders.

Warnings from the scientific

community are becoming

louder, as an increasing

body of science points to

rising dangers from the

ongoing buildup of human-

related greenhouse gases ―

produced mainly by the

burning of fossil fuels and

forests.

?Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

? The rate of warming is increasing. The 20th century's last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies. And the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850.

? The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average, according to the multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment report compiled between 2000 and 2004.

? Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.

? Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting―for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.

? Coral reefs, which are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature, suffered the worst bleaching―or die-off in response to stress―ever recorded in 1998, with some areas seeing bleach rates of 70 percent. Experts expect these sorts of events to increase in frequency and intensity in the next 50 years as sea temperatures rise.

? An upsurge in the amount of extreme weather events, such as wildfires, heat waves, and strong tropical storms, is also attributed in part to climate change by some experts.

I just learned all of that, thanks to this question.

I have learned that the facts are that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that without greenhouse gases the earth average temperature would be 33C colder (a giant snowball) and that we have added 40% more CO2 to the atmosphere.

I have learned that there is not one person who denies these facts.

I have learned that climate change deniers are either extreme free marketeers or conspiracy theorists. [1]

I already knew that intelligence studies link low I.Q. to prejudice, racism and conservatism. [2]

The claim "there is no evidence" is denier myth number 38, the claim "It hasn't warmed since 1998" is denier myth number 9 and the claim that there is no consensus is denier myth number 4 on the site Skepticalscience dot com. [3]

Quotes by Sagebrush (a self proclaimed Christian and ardent AGW denier) :

"Execute all those who voted for OBAMA"

"Hire the handicapped, they are fun to watch!"

There is no scientific evidence that there is AGW.

The temperature has gone down for the last sixteen years, while CO2 level has risen.

It is just a money making con game.

The 97% consensus of scientists is a lie. It is really 77 out of 75 highly selected scientists.

The advocates even admit to lying.

Quote by Al Gore, former U.S. vice president, and large CO2 producer: "I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis."

The Global Warming issue isn't about weather, climate, or science, it is about power and finance.

Quote by Ottmar Edenhoffer, high level UN-IPCC official: "We redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy...Basically it's a big mistake to discuss climate policy separately from the major themes of globalization...One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore."

AGW isn't based on true science.

Quote by Chris Folland of UK Meteorological Office: “The data don't matter. We're not basing our recommendations [for reductions in carbon dioxide emissions] upon the data. We're basing them upon the climate models.”

The advocates are using this pseudo science to gain power. This is clearly spelled out in the UN's Own "Agenda 21": "Effective execution of Agenda 21 will require a profound reorientation of all human society, unlike anything the world has ever experienced a major shift in the priorities of both governments and individuals and an unprecedented redeployment of human and financial resources. This shift will demand that a concern for the environmental consequences of every human action be integrated into individual and collective decision-making at every level."

The advocates know that this is pseudo-science.

Quote by Christine Stewart, former Canadian Environment Minister: “No matter if the science is all phoney, there are collateral environmental benefits.... climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.”

Notice that 'justice and equality' are code words for Communism.

I think Fred has hit the nail on the head.

That no one really has a clue wtf is going on with GW.
