Is global warming real (hear me out)?

There are quite a few things to consider for this question.

First, there are two basic data sets to monitor global sea levels. The first is satellite data which shows about 3.0mm increase per year. There is also a different data set from tide gauges which shows a rise of about 1.8mm per year. Notice that this is not a large increase year to year (about 1/10") so you won't notice it by going to beach. (Satellite data: https://www.e-education.psu.edu/files/ea... )

Second, sea level rise is not uniform. This is basically due to the fact that the oceans are not level. Winds and currents pile up water in different places of different coasts. As well, some coastlines are rising and some are sinking so there can be local sea level change even if the actual level doesn't. See here for an example of the unevenness of change: http://www.psmsl.org/products/anomalies/...

Third, ice melting in the Arctic does not affect the sea level since it is mainly sea ice that is already floating in the ocean. Ice breaking off from land ice and ice water running into the oceans in mainly Antarctic and Greenland do affect sea levels.

Fourth, sea level rise as far as a global warming issue is mostly a predicted one based on predicted future warming (and thus ice melting) from climate models. The IPCC report has the rise expected by 2100 to be around 10" to 25". Some scientists have more alarming predictions like up to two feet by 2100.

If you do some math regarding the current rate of sea level rise, the rate will need to increase greatly to reach even modest predictions for 2100. I am skeptical of this.

Sea level rise is about 1.8mm per year that is from tide gauges that dont have subsidence or isostatic rebound, that is a really tiny amount, your beach will be affected by weather, erosion, or longshore drift, much more than sea level rise could do.

The melting glaciers, land ice, is something that started at the end of the little ice age, during the little ice age glaciers and ice sheets grew a lot, some alpine villages were destroyed by ice and many forests were inundated, so it is only natural that they are receding now.

The forecast sea level rise is based on computer models, both the sea level and temperature models have failed, temperatures are not rising (if they are at all) anywhere near as fast as projected.

In fact global sea ice is at slightly above average as from 1979 when proper records began.

Global warming may be real, but it is certainly no big deal.

It's only ice over land such as that over Antarctica or that over Greenland which would increase the sea level when they melt, sea ice such as over the Arctic does not increase sea levels but do decrease salinity which would have profound effects with ocean currents. The sea level rise would not be noticeable to an average beach goer such as yourself as it's literally millimeters per year and it's not uniform around the world as water flows so it would bulge out more at the equator. There are a few islands that have submerged and it's currently debated as to whether they are from sea level rises or the more likely geologic activity such as subsidence of oceanic plates when it encounters the lighter continental plates. What is noticeable are that the floods for the Thames have exceeded predictions such that the flood mitigation efforts taken at great expense now appear to be insufficient for their intended life.

Sea level rise is not as pertinent an issue as the media makes it to be, it's simply what gets the most press as it's simpler to explain sea levels to the average person then explaining thermohaline ocean circulation or ocean acidification to them.

I'm Global Command in Command of Global Teams from all walks of life. Global Warming was very real, but we humans turned it off before all our Glaciers were melted. I did'nt read your details because this operation was mine. In 2011 I gave my Triple Output solution to another Nation and once they implemented for their reason. It turned off Global Warming/ Confirmed by your Satelite reports 11/28/2012 and some how Haley's Comet returned to its original mission and collided with the incoming so called Asteroid. I received pictures indirectly showing 10 large chunks drifting 13 years away from earth. dubbed the BIG BANG in deep space. As is the ice packs are building back up. Our only problem is too much water in our oceans, but I started a Global Oceans operation to let all Nations that wants to keep their rivers that tie- in with oceans by lowering them at least 40 feet deeper. They have 3 years before phase 2 starts. If their not lowered then they will loose their rivers. Its the only way to lower all oceans on earth and expand all coastal continents. This is a 4 continent operation. Global Command

Yes it is real, go read about from a real scientist, not some republican who thinks his liberal arts degree from the 80's makes him smarter than guys with a PHD, who didn't just attend college for the frat parties and beer.

You're not paying attention, beaches move all the time with the tides. If you haven't noticed that you're to stupid to bother with

Yes, real, and we have been experiencing its changes directly and locally where I live for several years now. While people go back and forth , debating whether its "real", it is quite likely, in my opinion, that the window of opportunity to save the planet is rapidly closing . By the time everyone figures out that its "real" and that the effects are globally devastating and permanent, it will be too late. This is not a science fiction movie with a last minute happy ending and spectacular special effects. Its our planets health and its "REAL". Even if it werent, would you want to take the chance? Dr.S

Nope, the evidence DOES not support this hypothesis. BTW, anyone else notice that you are prevented from answering any more questions...after only a half-dozen of them? Very strange!!!

yes

No.. Just an Excuse to tax people

Everyone says that since the 1990's, ice has been melting in both of the poles at a faster rate due to heat, and the sea levels will continue to rise at a potentially dangerous rate until all the ice is melted.

I'm not saying this is all false, but if ice has been melting at a faster rate than ever, how come beaches haven't moved? I've been a beach-goer every Summer of my life, and if the sea level was rising, why haven't I noticed the water rise a little more each Summer? Considering the fact that we measure tectonic plates as moving 2 to 5 centimeters a year, how come we haven't measured sea level as changing any more than that, if it was changing at an accelerating rate? Is the rate of rising sea level not measurable?

yes its real
