Fred is absolutely right. Global warming will not cause desertification. If anything, global warming might result in a higher frequency of flooding. As temperatures rise on a global scale this results in higher evaporation rates in the oceans. This causes more precipitation.

This is not speculation. All we need to do is look at geological records. During the last ice age sea levels were down, there was less inland water, lower precipitation. During the reign of the dinosaurs, the world was warmer and much of the land was tropical. Water everywhere!

Stop listening to the alarmists. They use scare tactics to get your attention and then they try to convince you that they are the ones who can save you. It's all politics.

When we say climate change we also mean temperature rise right? So if the temperature rises, water sources in some places get dried up. If this happens for a long time, and droughts become frequent, then after a long time it starts becoming a desert. That is how the deserts came to be. And this process will increase with the rise in temperature. Agriculture will suffer and since agriculture is quite an important aspect of the economy (because we get all the food and natural raw material from it), not only the economy but also the lives of humans will suffer.

For starters, what clown crafted this question? You should take your teacher to task over this. This is called a "straw man" question. It's like "do you still beat your wife?". Who says climate change leads to increased aridity and desertification? Facts not in evidence.

Well, actually, global COOLING could result in higher aridity and desertification. But global warming causes an increase in precipitation.

It is the natural order of things in nature. Half a Million years ago north Africa was a steaming jungle, now look at it, This didn't just occur in the past 3 centuries, so if man is to blame it must be the burning of oil in temple lamps...right?

It doesn't, you see the climate needs to actually change before anything is affected at all

Heres some empirical evidence that fred & jesse's answers are correct.
