No. most very clever people are a little eccentric, it is a nice shirt, but really unsuitable for the occasion.

It would look good in a disco.

Depends on context. I think it is a tasteless thing to wear on a national television broadcast, or at some sort of formal event, because it is at least potentially offensive. So, I think a climate scientist who did so (or, at least, who did so more than once) would... be unlikely to be invited to do many more broadcasts, or participate in many more formal events, because of it.

In a more informal context, I doubt it would even be an issue, unless he had a grad student or the like who felt it created a hostile work environment for her (for example, if he consistently wore shirts like that, and occasionally made offensive comments to her about them).

But, the way science works, it's not the person, it's the data. If someone was a mass-murdering, cannibalistic child rapist, but the science they did was solid, then their science would stand even as they were given the death penalty. Much less someone wearing a tasteless and somewhat offensive shirt.

Big deal! If you had ever attended a professional meeting, you would have seen all sorts of wild garb. The man's choice in clothing has nothing to do with his credentials as a scientist.

For what he did with that probe he can wear anything . when some one else does something some that great they can wear what they want.

Absolutely not! The Twits who slammed him for his shirt need to apologize to HIM.

No. people who don't like the shirt need to get a life.

Just a bunch of busy bodies with nothing better to do

Social Media is full of idiots. Who cares, who wears what? First they fighting to be color blind, then they start notice what you are wearing... He is not naked. He is making mistake by apologizing, that makes him look guilty, when he is not. Stupidity is never ends... =D

lol
