Why hasn't there been any warming in Antarctica since the start of satellite records?

It just proves Salon correct. They don't have a McDonald's down there, thus no cheeseburgers, thus no GW. Se that was easy.

It is because the primary driver of our climate is the axial tilt of the Earth as it rotates around the Sun (and not human activity), which distributes heat-caused-by-sunlight. Antarctica is on that part of the planet which is tilted away from the Sun most of the time.

Although the 'hole' in the ozone layer isn't specifically associated with warming-e.g. it doesn't cause more warming, it does have an impact on temperatures in the region, according to this report:

http://www.livescience.com/16548-antarct...

As the report reads in part, "...years with large ozone holes are now more associated with very cold winters over Antarctica and high polar winds that prevent the mixing of ozone-rich air outside of the polar circulation with the ozone-depleted air inside, the scientists say."

Probably a combination of 2 factors:

1. Any warming is "used up" melting the vast quantities of ice present in the area

2. Antarctica is *weird*, climate-wise. Several factors kind of make it its own climate bubble, largely unconnected to the rest of the planet in a lot of ways.

I really don't know, but it worries me as I have a feeling that Antarctica has a major influence on our climate and what happens there will eventually happen to the rest of our planet.

You're wrong, it is warming. Just at a slow rate. This is proven, that antartica is shrinking because of warming, glaciers are breaking apart. Moreover, less thermal resistance.

Its cold in Antarctica.
