Where is the best place online to discuss climate change?

Around here you get lots of politics.

That's almost surely true of just about every other site that "discusses" climate change.

The problem is that the honest science is pretty much settled.

The realistic discussion is about (a) how to change the politics to get the country, and the rest of the world, to do something, and (b) how to determine the rate of future change.

Here are some articles about climate change:

http://www.rkm.com.au/ANIMATIONS/carbon-... <== here's the physics.

http://web4.audubon.org/globalwarming/im... <== this is why CO2 is a problem.

http://www.rsc.org/images/CA1_tcm18-1379... <== Word doc. Page 6 shows where H2O and CO2 intercept different wavelengths

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... <== Note that CO2 intercepts a different wavelength than water. In addition, as CO2 warms the oceans, more water evaporates, increasing it's effectiveness.

http://www.school-for-champions.com/scie... <== melting of the Siberian tundra is a global warming time bomb.

http://fora.tv/2009/08/18/A_REALLY_Incon... <== This is an hour long, but is very good.

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu... <== Very long, but excellent.

It has often been claimed that changes in the sun are the problem, and that it's been cooling since 1998.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_varia...

Note that from 1997 to 2002, the sun was warming, in contradiction to the argument that it's been cooling since 1998.

In fact, 1998 was the hottest year on record for quite a while.

However that was because it was a very strong el nino year.

The /r/science subreddit isn't specifically for climate science or geoengineering, though climate science topics do come up regularly. The subreddit is notable for allowing commenters to verify and publicize their credentials, and for strict moderation against cranks who repeatedly post the same debunked points, so you don't have to waste time re-reading and re-bunking them.

The /r/environment subreddit is also highly active, though environmental politics is discussed about as often as the science.

Finally, the /r/sustainability subreddit is focused more on economic factors and practical solutions. That might be right up your alley.

This is a fairly good place. If you are in search of truth. You'll have to put up with a lot of abuse if you have facts against AGW. You will be called a liar, a phony, a Nazi, just to name a few deceitful monikers. But the bright side is that there are a bunch of good honest men who know their stuff. The don't have to resort to name calling. Now these people who don't agree with Al Gore and James Hansen, James retired from the GISS and is now a full time communist activist, and Paul Ehrlich and the many others that you see on the news, are a much more stable group and scientifically aware.

But take notice, Yahoo is in the tank for AGW and will fight you also if are not of their ILK. So if you are honestly seeking the truth, there are many who will provide it.

And yes, sustainability is a code word for communism because it is not an absolute. Being sustainable is subject to interpretation. Exact science is not. It is a buzz word used by those who attempt to confuse rather than to clarify.

Should your interest be to just "discuss" climate change, we do that here. Should your interest be a desire to learn more about the science behind climate change, the is one of the worst sites to visit. Even a cursory understanding of science is not required here for you post claims about climate change. I have some sites that you could participate in to increase your knowledge of the science, but I will not expose them here "in the land of trolls". As mentioned by Matt, Reddit is a very good site for learning. Trolls are quickly dispensed with there but you are allowed to make any claim(s) that you wish, as long as you have the science that will support your claim(s).

I suggest you browse through some of the previous discussions in this section of Yahoo Answers and see if this is for you, if so, you are most welcome to partake.

However given that your interest are about science and engineering rather then just AGW you might prefer slashdot [1]

A little clarification of the "sustainability" comment. To some extremist here "sustainability" (like "justice" and "equality") is a code word for communism.

The Animal channel, and National Geographic magazine.

Try Keith Kloor's Climate Etc. Judith Curry's site is also good.

You can probably best market your specialized services on the site in this link.

No need to waste your valuable time here in a non commercial open public opinion forum.

Why don't you start a group, if you're thinking locally. Post flyers, etc.

I think you may have found it. If you are looking for a place of like minded alarmists which unfortunately I believe you may belong than this may be too much for you. When you use words like "sustainability" you reveal an indication that you are gullible to group think IMO.

I am trying to find an active forum where environmental climate change issues are regularly discussed. I am interested in sustainability, and the scientific and engineering aspects of cleaning up the air, water, and soil of the earth as well as anything to do with "cooling" the planet (ie. geoengineering).

I can't seem to find anything like that on Google, so I though I would ask! Thanks in advance.

Not skepticalscience unless you are impressed with their leader John Cook
