How do Global Warmers explain the Frozen 2014 Polar Vortex?

Who,me - I'm afraid it's a little more than just 'weather' --- the globe has been COOLING for at least 12 years. http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut...

Top climate scientists say there is no man-made Global Warming.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

I'm not sure what you want us to explain. It was cold in the eastern U.S.; it's been warm other places. So far, this winter has been one of the warmest on record in the northern hemisphere. Of course California has been mild, but it's been MUCH warmer than usual.

There is always a polar vortex--occasionally there's an eddy off of it that brings arctic air down south. Some people try to explain such things in terms of global warming, but the first thing you should realize is that the answer is mainly that it's WEATHER.

Just because it's cold where you live doesn't mean anything in particular for global warming.

Al Gore explained it this way: the warmer the planet gets, the colder and more harsh the Winters are. Since he is the one everybody worships the most as the highest aclaimed scientist in history on this planet (Except for Bill Nye, the Science Guy) how can anybody possibly refute that! Here's the formula Heat + More Heat= Extreme Cold. Makes sense to me.

"not only in December but in this 2014 winter season? "

December is part of your Winter and in the West of the U.S. (as now) it was cold but the West is not the same so you may want to revise your 49-50 states claim.

Much of the East is in drought i.e. no snow.

This was what the globe looked like in Dec

Yes the U.S. was cooler, but not so much on the East coast and while you may think the U.S. is "global" (a common denier mistake) those living in Russia and Northern China may not agree with your limited view of what makes up the 'globe'

Then we have this "So it's not only the North Pole"

Perhaps you mean not even the North Pole you seem to be trying to imply large snow fall there as well, But if the Polar vortex has expanded down over the U.S. that means less snowfall for the Arctic, borne out by ice levels through the 3 months of the U.S. Winter.

Hovering either side of the record low seen in 2012, and currently just below even the extreme of the lower average. Snow fall is one of the preservers of sea ice it keeps it's albedo high and slows it's melt in summer, there seems to be little sign of that this season.

As for the 49-50 states it would seem that number is actually a little over twenty,

but heh, deniers are the ones who have been saying 1998 is 17 years ago (they where saying it last year as well) so I guess numbers are not your strong point either.

Deniers have been on here for the last 5 years claiming unusual snow fall in the U.S. and U.K proves AGW is not happening while they play up the now regular pushing of the Polar vortex further south, it's funny how they try really hard to ignore the rest of the year and in fact the rest of the world.

What is happening to you is linked to local changes in the pattern of the Polar vortex in winter and it has in fact happened a number of times in the last few years, but it is also linked to warmer weather in much of Northern Russia, less average snowfall in the Arctic, but I guess you don't want to hear that

If you want to make this regional, o.k. then Australia (about the same size as the continental U.S. Has just had it's warmest 12 months on record and the last several years has seen records around the country, 50-100 years old fall for temperature and heatwave duration.

Globally 2013 was the 4th warmest year in the modern record

Based on the facts, not deniers hearsay, I think rather than changing lesson plans in schools, maybe deniers should actually try going to school, even if it's only to learn 1998 is still only 16 years ago.

Global warming's effect on Earth includes changing the temperature of ocean currents, usually warming them. This effect might result in hot weather in one place, snow somewhere else, cyclone etc. However, since it is getting worse, these events are making weather events more severe and more often. That is the bottom line, and yes, tragedy often follows.

It is called "GLOBAL warming" not American seasonal weather change.

check out the overall temperature change averaged out over the course of the past century. Then look into some observable things like glacier melt, and changing Arctic conditions. tell me what you find

Whatever your blog sources or non-science pundits think they mean by "global warmer," the weird weather this winter has an explanation simple enough (though probably only partial and tentative) for newspaper reporters to understand:

Global warming heats the arctic more than the temperate latitudes (because of the feedback of ice loss meaning less reflection); the warmer arctic slows the jet stream, the slower jet stream means slower changes in weather. So that means spells of bad weather (unusual cold, unusual drought, unusual rainfall, etc.) last longer than they did before. Again, I don't claim to have every detail of this here, and it's probably not a full explanation, because there isn't one yet from scientists, but this clearly makes a whole lot more sense than Al Gore in a time machine orchestrating a century-long conspiracy of the whole profession of physical sciences.

U.S. National Academy of Sciences, 2010:

“Climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems.”

http://www8.nationalacademies.org/onpine...

“Choices made now about carbon dioxide emissions reductions will affect climate change impacts experienced not just over the next few decades but also in coming centuries and millennia…Because CO2 in the atmosphere is long lived, it can effectively lock the Earth and future generations into a range of impacts, some of which could become very severe.”

“The Academy membership is composed of approximately 2,100 members and 380 foreign associates, of whom nearly 200 have won Nobel Prizes. Members and foreign associates of the Academy are elected in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research; election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors that can be accorded a scientist or engineer.”

did you know that polar air is cold? so when it moves towards the tropics, the place that it moves to gets colder than normal? this shouldn't be so hard to grasp if you're over the age of 8.

Dont worry Son, that can be easily done. way down on Hi-way 61.

They already have a soundbite pre printed for any conceivable weather condition so their ready for anything that might happen.

Too hot= global warming

Too cold= global warming

Too dry= global warming

Too wet= global warming

More hurricanes= global warming

No hurricanes= global warming

Get the picture?

Its best to never bet against competent well prepared professionals.

Much better to just admire their work & try to learn from it.

Despite your egotism your backyard is not the globe. Other places are experiencing record heat, by your logic that confirms global warming.

How do the Global Warmers explain the extremely rigid, icy frozen coldness of the 2014 Polar Vortex which has taken down power lines and caused deaths in not only East Coast states, not to mention deaths of small animals, but has actually caused temperatures of as low as -15 (that's negative 15) centigrade in Southern states like Georgia, where Atlanta residents were hit hard with hail, sleet, and snow? But not only that. 49 of the 50 states (Matt Drudge linked to the proof so that no one can dispute it) were hit with snow last week. And that's not all. Frozen cold temperatures set lowest temperature records in 26 states, and the unrelenting Polar Vortex wasn't a come-and-go phenomenon. Scientists are warning of another Polar Vertex possibly arising next year during the height of the winter season.

So it's not only the North Pole, but even down to southern Georgia, where America has felt the chill. How does this mesh (at all) with what the Global Warmers are trying to indoctrinate our children with in continual "Global Warming" lessons for schoolchildren in the same states that have been affected? Why do they continue to push for "Global Warming" readiness when we are actually seeing the exact OPPOSITE of their dire predictions -- not only in December but in this 2014 winter season?

Of course California is not the same story as the remaining continental U.S., (droughts and milder weather) but how do the Global Warmers explain the facts about the Polar Vortex of 2014? Might we see *any* change in lesson plans from the public schools next school year?

Weather isn't climate.

It's weatherr and it's happened before
