How does global warming affect our world?

Posted at: 2015-03-12
Global warming is expected to have far-reaching, long-lasting and, in many cases, devastating consequences for planet Earth.

For some years, global warming ― the gradual heating of Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere ― was a topic of heated debate in the scientific community.

But the overwhelming consensus of researchers today is that global warming is real and is caused by human activity, primarily the burning of fossil fuels that pump carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. In fact, a major report released Sept. 27, 2013, by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated that scientists are more certain than ever of the link between human activities and global warming.

There isn't any global warming, temperatures have stopped rising, sea level rise is not increasing in rate, in fact it has slightly decreased since 2004, global ice extent is above is 250.000 sq km above average.

However what would happen if we had global warming, well nobody really knows, yes sea levels coud rise, but thats about all we know, maybe the best way is to go back in history and see what happened the last time our planet warmed, that would be the Holocene Climate Optimum 6000 to 9000yrs ago, during this period the Sahara had rivers and lakes, China had forests where now is savannah and deserts, the Northern hemisphere had more extensive forests and woodlands, and Hippo's lived in the Thames river and in Holland.

Pay no attention to the denailsts.

Global warming could lead to a rising sea level and more droughts and deserts. It won't flood the entire world, but it could do thousands of times more damage that all of the hurricanes that ever happened. But global warming can be solved by using clean energy sources, such as solar, hydro and nuclear power.

If you mean **man-made** Global Warming, it doesn't affect our world because there is none.

What global warming? It's been cooling for at least 12 years according to HadCrut3 & HadCrut4 is nearly flat. http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut...

According to RSS Satellite data there has been no warming for almost 18 years.

What Global Warming??

If nothing is done about the MANMADE climate change then it will be the end of the world. Climate deniers are usually from one of the industries that are causing the climate to heat up. They are lying when they say there is no manmade climate change. Practically EVERY scientist in the world says humans are the cause of the current changing climate and something MUST be done very soon or the earth will be at the point of no return. To say it's all made up is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!

NOW DAYS ALL OVER THE WORLD STORMS ARE INCREASING AND THE POWER OF IT INCREASING DAY AFTER DAY. THIS IS THE VERY AFFECT OF GLOBAL WARMING. IF THE WARMING GOING ON IN SUCH WAY THE PRESERVE ICE OF ANTARCTIC WILL MELT DOWN AND THE SEA WATER LEVEL WILL RAISE THE COASTAL AREA OF MANY COUNTRY WILL GO BENEATH OF WATER. THE TRUE STORY IS THAT THE ICE OF ANTARCTIC IS MELTING EVERY DAY FOR THE GLOBAL WARMING.

The planet is warming, from North Pole to South Pole, and everywhere in between. Globally, the mercury is already up more than 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius), and even more in sensitive polar regions. And the effects of rising temperatures aren’t waiting for some far-flung future. They’re happening right now. Signs are appearing all over, and some of them are surprising. The heat is not only melting glaciers and sea ice, it’s also shifting precipitation patterns and setting animals on the move.

Some impacts from increasing temperatures are already happening.

Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. This includes mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice.

Researcher Bill Fraser has tracked the decline of the Adélie penguins on Antarctica, where their numbers have fallen from 32,000 breeding pairs to 11,000 in 30 years.

Sea level rise became faster over the last century.

Some butterflies, foxes, and alpine plants have moved farther north or to higher, cooler areas.

Precipitation (rain and snowfall) has increased across the globe, on average.

Spruce bark beetles have boomed in Alaska thanks to 20 years of warm summers. The insects have chewed up 4 million acres of spruce trees.

Other effects could happen later this century, if warming continues.

Sea levels are expected to rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 and 59 centimeters) by the end of the century, and continued melting at the poles could add between 4 and 8 inches (10 to 20 centimeters).

Hurricanes and other storms are likely to become stronger.

Species that depend on one another may become out of sync. For example, plants could bloom earlier than their pollinating insects become active.

Floods and droughts will become more common. Rainfall in Ethiopia, where droughts are already common, could decline by 10 percent over the next 50 years.

Less fresh water will be available. If the Quelccaya ice cap in Peru continues to melt at its current rate, it will be gone by 2100, leaving thousands of people who rely on it for drinking water and electricity without a source of either.

Some diseases will spread, such as malaria carried by mosquitoes.

Ecosystems will change―some species will move farther north or become more successful; others won’t be able to move and could become extinct. Wildlife research scientist Martyn Obbard has found that since the mid-1980s, with less ice on which to live and fish for food, polar bears have gotten considerably skinnier. Polar bear biologist Ian Stirling has found a similar pattern in Hudson Bay. He fears that if sea ice disappears, the polar bears will as well.

we've already seen erratic weather, as predicted by scientists.

Billions of dollars of damage from storms, flooding and drought.

Food prices continue to rise because of the droughts in the West.

If most isn't done it will only get worse and cost trillions of dollars.

The Great Depression will be dwarfed.

It is a lie used by evil conspirers to gain control of you and your wallet.

Quote by Christine Stewart, former Canadian Environment Minister: “No matter if the science is all phony, there are collateral environmental benefits.... climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.”

Justice and equality are code words for communist. Just look at the recent demonstration in NYC.

In the Midwestern part of the U.S. it also cools by an average of 15C to 20C every day. If Global Warming says it has warmed by 0.87C in 353 years (like they have been telling us), then I can say with reasonable certainty that "it also cools by an average of 15.0024645892351275C to 20.0024645892351275C every day".

I do not know what happens on your world ,but hear on the planet Earth we have no global worming ,go ask your teacher why CO2 leaves are so low ,we are under 200 per million , so it is not my SUV . and your killer storms are at an all time low ....

The globe hasn't warmed in 16 years.

Stop believing lies.

I REFUSE TO LIVE IN FEAR.

Snow melt and sea level rising, heavy rainfall somewhere desert, temperature rise and difficult to survive. It will challege to our next generation.

the climate changes all the time

bumper crops world wide. It's not all bad.

It causes right wing morons to parrot the fake-science lies they get from FOX.

Fake-science lies make an obedient republican dumbsh*t feel like he really KNOWS stuff.

it affect our world by climate change, like not rain in raining season is eg.

it doesn't

it is all made up
