Local weather is not Global climate. Ironically, there is a possibility that the shift in the jet stream and other patterns that cause warm air to go to Alaska, and cold air out of Alaska are related to Global Warming.

Warming can actually cause more snow, because warmer air can hold more water vapor, producing more precipitation, which can be snow as long as it isn't warm enough to be rain instead.

The coldest place in the world, Antarctica, actually has very little snowfall. It just builds up a deep ice sheet because it never melts in summer and builds up for thousands of years.

Churchill calls off Thursday racing program

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Churchill Downs has canceled its 10-race Thursday program, marking the second straight cancellation because of a frozen racetrack.

This is the first time for back-to-back cancellations at Churchill due to cold since Nov. 23-24, 1970, according to a media release issued early Wednesday evening by the track.
