Why should I change my wasteful habits to stop global warming?

I don't really thing that the polar ice caps are going to melt overnight.

The Arctic ice is melting, if not overnight, every year. The average winter temperature of New Hampshire, is already 3 degrees warmer. This rise is in the lower part of the state where development has increased AND in the northern regions of the state where no development has occurred for the last 100 years, if ever.

Many weather changes are occurring in the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, at least, due to the Arctic melt. Most of the changes are unpleasant to the residents who had adapted to different temperatures. In New Hampshire, for instance, the maple trees are stressed by the increase in temperature. Their fall colors are not as brilliant and their sugar cap in the spring has diminished from 6% to 3%.

I'm guessing the melting of the Arctic has, or will, affect you, probably sooner than you think.

As to wastefulness, you pay for that upfront. A little thought can save you a lot of money.

Changing your wasteful habits towards a more eco friendly approach goes beyond saving the environment. Sure the polar ice caps may not melt over night, but if everyone embraced the same attitude as you did then no change would happen and ice caps would melt at faster rates.

Gearing your habits towards a more eco friendly approach is less about now and more about the future. It is what we do now that will help future generations from the side effects of global warming.

Think Ahead

For a change I agree with Jim Z, I don't like wasting resources and money allows me to trade in resources. The part where we disagree is that I believe that global warming is significant. And therefore I think it makes more economic sense to limit global warming then to clean up an even bigger mess afterwards.

They won't melt overnight. In fact if the atmosphere warmed up 10 C overnight it would take 10s of 1000s of years for all the ice to melt.

Only reason to change wasteful habits is to save money to spend elsewhere.

You know what I think... Global Warming is indeed real yes, but people take that for granted and have to tie money into everything. If you want to waste 3 hours of electricity for nothing doesn't mean the world going to be a giant fireball the next day.

I am skeptical of significant human caused warming but since I pay the bills, including gas (natural and gasoline) and electric, I don't have any wasteful habits. I suggest you be more kind to whoever is paying the bills.

I agree with you. It's your stuff, you purchased it with your money, you can waste it if you want to.

And you are right, there is no man-made Global Warming.

Top climate scientists say there is no man-made Global Warming.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

Presumably because they are wasteful. But be careful that they are actually wasteful, ant not merely what someone else has deemed wasteful or excessive that you find to be helpful to you.

I don't really thing that the polar ice caps are going to melt overnight.
