What are some specific examples of how the world's climate is changing?

The effects are dramatic if you know where to look. Coffee, banana and wine grape production requires some very specific climate limitations. These industries have already noticed significant changes. The US Navy has known for decades that the artic ice pack is shrinking, breaking up and thinning. Tropical insects are now found much further north, certain animal species are found at higher elevations, winters are slightly shorter and summers slightly longer. Coastal erosion has accelerated, historical rain patterns are significantly dfferent and the jet stream's ridges and troughs have become noticeably extreme. If anyone cares to research this there's plenty of evidence.

For those that say that climate is always changing they have a point... but climate changes over tens of thousands of years or even over millions of years. Our current situation has happened over less than 200 years. 99% of the science, the data and the physics of climate and atmosphere agree... the times they are a' changin'....and so is the climate.

C: Go to about minute 47 of your piece of propaganda (I am trying to stay clean) and you will see a part in there about Jimmy Hansen. There it claims that climate models have accurately predicted the future. That is rubbish.

Jimmy is from a jerk water town of Dennison, Ia. And there they wouldn't know the difference. That was one of the towns where the snake oil salesmen flourished. It was moderated by Tom Brokow, from Lake Andes, SD. I would call it a jerk water town except for the fact that they didn't even have a railroad.

This documentary filled with losers and outright lies belongs in the garbage.

In direct answer to your question: The climate hasn't changed in recent history. Case in point, the two towns that I mentioned above I am well familiar with. They are farming there the same as when Jimmy Hansen was born in 1941. In fact only the technology has changed in that area since they were settled. The Climate is exactly the same. The crops grow more abundantly because of fertilizers. But all in all it is virtually the same climate.

This hysteria of climate change is not founded in fact. Regarding ice melting as Sid brings out. Well I hope it does. I have about 6 inches right outside my door from overflowing eaves troughs. And tell those naive environmentalists who foolishly got stuck in Antarctica last month that the ice is declining. Also tell all those stranded environmentalists who had to be rescued at McMurdo Bay in the Antarctica by a Russian icebreaker, no less.

global warming. That is a laugh. Right now there is over a half a million homes without power due to this so called 'global warming'.

Heavy rain. Heavy rains wiped out the city of Dayton, Ohio several times back around the turn of the 1900s. Deadwood, SD got almost wiped out by heavy rains right after it was established. Same for Helena, Montana in 1868. Heavy rains are not new. Maybe to some one who was born yesterday, which fits most of the greenies on this site.

Hotness in the Summer. Wow! That is unique! The hottest recorded temperature in the US and possibly the world was in Death Valley in 1913.

So you can see that many people try to look smart and advocate that we are right now seeing a climate change. There are no credible examples.

Note that what Mike says is accurate. The warmers thus far, completely wrong.

This is actually very simple. If you want to say that the cold winter DOESN'T go against the theory of global warming, because it is a weather event, then you must disregard ALL weather events. You don't get to pick and choose which weather events you will use and which you will ignore.

CLIMATE change is supposed to be about changes over large periods of time. Continual ice melt, continual warming are proper things to bring up. Hurricanes are not.

And the warmers can whine and complain and call me names all they want, it does change the facts.

In fact, let me bring up the hurricanes that they talk about. The 5 most deadly hurricanes to hit the US, were in the following years, respectively;

Hurricane Year Cat. Deaths

Great Galveston Hurricane 1900 4 8000-12000

Okeechobee Hurricane 1928 4 2500-3000

Hurricane Katrina 2005 3 1500+

Louisiana Hurricane 1893 4 1100-1400

S. Carolina / Georgia 1893 3 1000-2000

http://geology.com/hurricanes/largest-hu...

Note that 4 of the top 5 occurred within the timeframe of 1893 and 1928. Obviously weather events do not followe the nice patterns where you can see a few in a short period and claim a massive change.

If they want to bring up weather patterns like hurricanes, then demand a statistical analysis showing an uptake in said weather patterns over time and accounting for the multiplicity problem of looking at multiple types of event like hurricanes, tornadoes, cold winters, hot summers, drought, floods, etc.

Why I say multiplicity is simple. If you look at 20 events at the 5% rate, just by chance you will have one look like it is statistically significant, when it is not.

That is one thing you will not find these charlatans doing. If any other field of science where they talk about a change, they would show a statistical analysis that accounts for multiplicity. These people give you Youtube videos.

The actual scientists are mostly making far less certain claims, than the warmers here.

Noah,

I just read an article by a warmer site that states that wine grapes are NOT a good proxy for the temp of the earth.

http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/arc...

They are basically using the "fact" that wine grapes are not a good measure to justify the fact that the medieval warming period saw wine grapes in England, when they are not even present now.

You warmers really need to keep your story straight here. Are they a good measure or not???

Further, I dare you to find one scientist that will say that the climate is not always in a state of change.

Hey ladies psu beast here Don't know bout you guys but ive got almost a foot of snow up here and we've had a pretty damn cold year. We're actually in for global cooling and that would be much more devastating then the earth getting a little warmer i mean come on think about it. Losers

It's getting a little bit warmer. However, in the last 15 years or so, been pretty stable.

Sea level s rising a few mm per year.

Arctic ice is less.

Antarctic ice is more.

This is a pretty thorough documentary @ 1 1/2 hour video

melting of ice berg

ice melting, global warming, heavy rain for a short period then in summer hotness is too intense.
