Is it true that global warming is going to end this world?

WHAT IF THE POLAR ICE MELT AD SEA LEVEL RISE AND WILL BE RISING EVERYWHERE CREATIN A GIAANT TSUNAMI AND ALL THE LANDS GET DROWNED!

No. Most of the land is too high to be flooded by the melting of glaciers in Antarctica and Greenland. So, no, global warming is not the end of the world. That doesn't mean that global warming isn't serious, as if the "end of the world" and "not a problem" were the only possible outcomes. The fall of the Roman Empire, the plague, the Spanish Inquisition, the Napoleonic Wars, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II and 9/11 weren't the end of the world either.

What mechanism exists to absorb all of the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in the next 500 years? Photosynthesis won't, because photosynthesis is balanced by respiration. And the oceans can only absorb carbon dioxide if they are too cool to be in equilibrium with the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Carbon dioxide solubility in water is dependent on temperature.

Unless Earth has a brain it never will.

Plants need water as well. They only grow better with more carbon dioxide if in greenhouses, because they have all the water and fertilizer they need.

The ocean's ability to pull on carbon dioxide is proportional to the difference between the equilibrium concentration in air and the actual concentration in air. The numbers can come closer by lowering atmospheric carbon dioxide, which would involve waiting for hundreds of years after we stop putting it into the atmosphere, or by increasing ocean temperature.

What negative feedbacks? Provide evidence, not speculation. As Earth is warming, there are fewer clouds, not more clouds.

Because the output from the Sun is limited, not because Earth is equiped with a DCS.

Yawn, it simply does not work that way, we know to a reasonably good level the volume of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, the rate of melt is quite slow currently ~3.16mm per year. The rate seems to be slowly rising and only has to go to ~3x that figure to get the sort of rise estimated by the IPCC ~1m.

So a 1m tsunami that takes 90 or so years is hardly a world ender.

Over the longer term if all the worlds ice melts sea level can only rise about 65m (as it has done many times in the past) .

This is certainly bad for us with so many costal cities and infrastructure world wide but hardly an end of the world situation.

Tsunami are created by earthquakes and landslides and more rarely by impacts from space, not slowly melting ice.

There are certainly a few natural disasters that could "end the world" like the above mentioned space impact, a star in our local region going super nova or our own Sun when it reaches the end of it's current stable life. AGW while a big issue for us and life on our planet is certain not an end of the world issue.

But it is an issue.

As George Carlin says: "The planet is fine. The *people* are f***ed."

We can vastly damage the biosphere. We can screw up the atmosphere. We can drive ourselves, and/or many other species, extinct (and have already done the latter, many times over).

But we are vastly unlikely to lead to the extinction of all life, nor are we likely to mess up the actual geology too much. And all the ice on the planet melting would not cover more than... something like 30% of the Earth's land area. It's just that a lot of the area that would be covered is where we have cities, farms, and the like.

Of course this is the real fact which can't be denied.

Everything in the world is being changed with the passage of time and same is the case with the global warming, which is causing a huge trouble for the environment of the world.

The glaciers are being melted , the environmental temperature is going higher to higher and all this is a troublesome for the mankind and the nature which would ruin the whole world ultimately.

1. polar ice is floating. even if it all melts, it will not add to sea level. Try it with an ice cube in a drink- basic science.

2. the world will be fine even if all humans are gone

3. tusnamis will never reach Colorado.

4. vey bad even for a troll

yes global warming going to raise world going to end

Calm down. Global warming is not going to end the world. Even under the worst possible scenario laid out by the worst possible model, the world survives and people survive. Under the worst model, the locations under within 3 feet of sea level will experience flooding.

Baccheus,

Your 500 year estimate cracks me up. As if we have the fossil fuel for 500 years. How long do you think CO2 lasts in the atmosphere so as to jsutify it still causing the heating 500 years from now??? And thanks for talking about the WEATHER EVENT Sandy as if it is climate. Does that mean that since its cold out, no warming is occurring??? Ohhhh, I am sorry weather automatically become climate as long as it confirms your view???

This is why I call people like yourself an alarmist. When you then say "the only way to stop this is to agree to the gov't taxing us" you garner the title alarmunist. I am not yet sure if you are an alarmunist. What is your plan for saving the world now???

Realist,

So you now want to claim that the half-life of CO2 in the atmosphere will be increased??? How long do you think we can continue to add CO2 into the atmosphere at this rate and how long do you think the earth takes to correct itself? You already KNOW that plant life grows better with more CO2. the ocean's pull on CO2 is dependent upon the atmospheric concentration of CO2 as well.

You claim to be a climate realist??? Why do you think the postive feedbacks out weigh the negative feedbacks and the earth has no mechanism to correct itself. Hardly seems realistic of a planet that has been around for 4.5 billion years.

NO.

One in a thousand at YA. Someone who is alarmed, and NOT about carbon taxes, Al Gore, hoaxed climate models, or the Federal Reserve.

No the world will outlive the stupidity of humans and will correct itself over time

extremely tough point browse into yahoo and bing that could actually help

WHAT IF THE POLAR ICE MELT AD SEA LEVEL RISE AND WILL BE RISING EVERYWHERE CREATIN A GIAANT TSUNAMI AND ALL THE LANDS GET DROWNED!

Actually, according to scripture the earth is being reserved for a firey demise, so that's pretty much what you can expect.

100% true. In 5,000,000,000 (+- 200,000,000) years the sun will expand enough to completely swallow the earth and vaporize it. No amount of CO2 reduction will help.

Nooo. Worst case is 7 meters rise in sea level happening over 500 years.

You can use a map to sort of see what that means in your area.

We are already paying costs for sea level rise, both in dollars and lives. At minimum we know that the higher sea level contributes incrementally to storm surges such as with the destructive Sandy. The NY subways were flooded for the first time ever.

No,it wont happen

Global Warming 101 - http://www.drroyspencer.com/global-warmi...

Why is it that it is only denialists that make these ridiculous claims?

No way.

Human can not be destroyed by natural way It should be unnatural...

We can survive an natural disaster..
