How can there be Global Warming if the Northeast United States has such cold, snowy winters?

Some people say the Earth is actually cooling and we are headed for another Ice Age, so how can there be Global Warming?

I am assuming that the recent blizzard has caused many people to start asking questions like this. While there are many cold, snowy days in this area, these days have become far less frequent and severe in the past several decades. The average global temperature is continuing to rise, and it is in fact indubitable to those who have some knowledge on the subject that global warming is at hand.

The myth of us approaching another ice age comes from the fact that before the last ice age, Earth experienced an unusual warm period.

New Hampshire winters (NH is a part of NE) have warmed by 3 degrees. Northern NH, where there are nearly no people and no development, has warmed as much as Southern NH, where development has risen sharply.

Ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee is earlier and earlier.

3 degrees is not enough winter warming for snow to cease. The weather has definitely become more extreme in NH.

I don't think the recent blizzard was particularly unusual, although fortunately such blizzards are not common.

The projection is that eventually NH's weather could be like South Carolina's today. Not next week, and when or if depends on how much is done to control carbon emissions now -- and how nature responds.

Some call it global warming but I prefer the term climate change because in reality that is what we are experiencing. Some parts of the world are getting warmer while others are getting cooler and yes, mankind has some responsibility but this has been going on cyclically since time began even before mankind. Changes are happening and I doubt science can put a stop to them, slow them down a bit yes but stop a natural weather phenomenon I doubt it. We can't stop hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes and I think we can do little about climates changing either.

It is now winter in the northern hemisphere and it sometimes snows in the winter. It only has to be below 32°F to snow, and it's possible to have global warming and the North East be below 32°F. The oceans are now warmer which puts more moisture into the air, so it is possible that global warming contributed to the amount of snow.

The claim "It's cooling" is denier myth number 5 on Skepticalscience dot com, a useful site that keeps a list of the more common denier claims and debunks each and every one of them.

The facts are that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that without greenhouse gasses the earth average temperature would be 33C colder (a giant snowball) and that we have added 40% more CO2 to the atmosphere. There is not one scientist who denies these facts.

You really have to get an IQ over 40 to play here.

OMG IT IS WINTER

The Earth is not cooling and the ice age is 20,000 years off

at what point did NE USA become "Global"?

heading for an ice age... sure.

because there are no Global warming, its just made up , like the boggy man so they can tax you on it

I dunno, but here's the best proof yet of Global Warming:
