Does united states reduce fuel consumption?

I am wondering if United States reduce fuel consumption? And How? Please do tell me your source too!

Fuel consumption in the U. S. is down, but because of the recession, not because of policy.

They closed the Federal government down four days ago and look at the gas prices drop. The Federal government uses a lot of fuel.

Obama just cancelled his Mideast trip. That should save a lot.

Reduce school busing. This can be done very easily. Around wher I live. the busses are never 1/4 full.

Make more efficient roads. A car that is stopped consumes fuel with no milage. That is a total waste. Also, a car that is driving below 1500 RPM is polluting at least 10 times what a car running over that does.

Eliminate toll booths. Make them illegal. Lines at toll booths congest traffic and cause wasted energy and increase pollution. If President Obama can just hand over $100,000,000,000 (yes that is billion) to the UN for the myth GW then we should get some real good for that money and tear down the toll booths. That kind of money can build and maintain bridges.

Our government could do a lot of actions which would save energy and pollute less. But they won't do it because there really is no crises.

Millions of hybrids are on the road plus nearly million other alternative fueled cars are in various services everywhere. It is safe to say that US fuel consumption has reduced with some healthy efforts in past few years.

Just look at the miles per gallon that the government mandates and it's going up to about 55mpg in the future.

Natural gas causes half the pollution of gasoline or diesel.
