Neighbour installs a wind turbine without permission....?

Would you be angry if your neighbour installed a wind turbine in view of your property, even though they are helping to fight against global warming?

Not sure where you are. In the UK you have no right to a view and if there is consent you can't do anything. That having been said it would be pretty inconsiderate for your neighbour to do this without talking to you.

The two biggest problem with community and residential wind turbines is a) not getting properly permitted and b) not using approved installation methods/towers. Assuming they took care of a) and knowing that most current residential turbine makers will not sell unless there is a certified installer involved, then no there is not a problem.

If you think there is a problem, check with your commissioner. They should be able to tell you quickly if they were permitted/zoned properly.

Now, if they started hanging their laundry from it.....

Edit: Pegminer is wrong again. Actually there are residential wind turbine makers out there that can meet the singular residence typical power demand. Check AWEA.com. Solar power development on the residential scale to meet complete independent residential power demands is still away off. Most development of solar is still slatted for utility grade solar farms intended for a home load of say 50,000 to 150,000 residential households, give or take.

Not sure what this wind turbine has to do with global warming.

In the UK you don’t always need planning permission to erect a wind turbine, more than anything it depends where it is and how big it is.

If it’s a building mounted turbine, then it has to comply with the Building Regulations (the largest and most complex set of laws in the UK), so the person would only really need to consult an architect or other expert. The maximum permitted height before planning permission is required is three metres above the highest point of the roof.

Standalone turbines situated wholly within the boundary of a private dwelling (e.g. the garden) can also be erected without the need for planning permission provided it is no more than 11 metres high and has a sweep area less than 3.8 square metres (this would mean that the length of each blade would be no more than 1.1 metres).

In addition to the height regulations there are other conditions which must be met, these are detailed on this website:

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permiss...

If your neighbour has erected a turbine which requires Detailed Planning Permission and they have failed to obtain DPP then you can raise the issue with the Planning Dept of your local council. They may grant retrospective permission in which case there’s nothing you can do, they may require the neighbour to go through the full Outline / Detailed PP, consultation process etc in which case you can formally object and the planning dept will consider your comments. Alternatively they may refuse permission and your neighbour will be ordered to remove the turbine.

No. I'm guessing a wind turbine in a residential area would not be large, and would therefore not be a large inconvenience. People are allowed to build houses that block the ocean-views of others, so a wind turbine shouldn't be a big deal.

I don't think "angry" is the right word, I would not like having my view blocked, especially because I don't live in a particularly windy area, so the neighbor would have been much smarter to install solar panels rather than a wind turbine.

Solar panels are a better solution for global warming anyway. If world energy demands continue to rise as they are now, there would not be enough easily available wind power to meet the demand. However, it could be met using solar panels.

If the thing was approved by Zoning, it's their property and their right to do so. Part of the legality of property ownership in the US.

No approval by zoning, and it comes down no matter.

Seems to me, they make chicken guns for this sort of thing.

Sorry... UK.

They make stoat guns for this sort of thing:

Yes but then I would not get to laugh at it when it does not work ie not moving on a windy day.

Its a waste of money.

so what is your point you hate me for using power and now for making it , the Kennedy family love you.

yes. I would be angry how I would deal with it may be say nothing to him and destroy it.

but don't get caught.

Would you be angry if your neighbour installed a wind turbine in view of your property, even though they are helping to fight against global warming?

So what? We have to put up with the lies of greenies. A windmill is of little consequence next to that.

No it would not bother me

Yes I would be furious.
