The world as we know it would not exist if it were not for CO2. It is not bad or dangerous. The plants love CO2.
The greenhouse effect is essential for all life on Earth, it’s the only mechanism this planet has for retaining heat. Without it, what is effectively our insulation, would be lost and Earth would freeze solid.
The greenhouse effect is caused by the presence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and most of these are naturally occurring. The problem we face now is that human activities are adding a lot more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, this is enhancing the greenhouse effect and the planet is warming.
So far the warming has been a little under 1°C, if things continue as they are then we can expect perhaps 3°C further warming by the end of the century. Whilst this will be problematic for many people (and plants and animals) it wouldn’t be catastrophic and we’d be able to adapt to some changes and mitigate against others. It could be expensive and inconvenient but we’d manage.
It’s only if the greenhouse effect runs out of control that things become disastrous, and there’s no evidence at all to suggest that this is going to happen. Even if it did, it would most likely be caused by the Sun rather than our activities.
