I do not have a firm source, but according to Wilson public funding of wheat and other grains translates to $0.60/acre while private funding translates to $8.00-$10.00/acre.

I don't expect that Bayer, Dow, Syngenta and Monsanto know any more than anyone else about the future. So they have just bought in to the current "consensus view". It would not surprise me if they got government grants for this, either. Anyone know? I also expect that basing research on the idea that the future would be colder would not attract any funding.

So they could be increasing their knowledge while incurring reduced costs. Much of the technology learned in the process will be generally beneficial to them. If it does happen to get warmer then they will be ahead of the game. What is not to like?

The climate is varied across the planet and plants with the ability to grow in more arid climates are a good way to feed people in Africa and other locations and reduce transportation costs.

Or it could be that climate change is going to kill us all. The sky is falling, the sky is falling. Everybody panic.

Fact is that crop production has been consistently increasing despite the gloom and doom crowd always talking about cliamte change killing crop production. The increases have not kept up with demand, however, because the greeners are raging morons that got mandates for ethanol use through. So now we have more expensive food, more expensive gas and it did not reduce the CO2 emissions at all. Thanks greenies.

The ignorance spewed by the warmers in scaring everyone into believing a climate apocalypse is coming, is only matched by the stupidity of their "solutions".

Such fun to see the deniers jump on this as if it were an attack on their cherished beliefs. The truth of the matter is that there are places in the world that are too hot and dry for raising the standard varieties of wheat. A pre-adapted variety would open up a new market for the company that sells it.

Interesting question. The big corps. whether bio tech. or big oil itself no longer deny climate change in fact they are hiring the people now that they hope will help them make money on the changing climate.

Its old fashion to deny the changes that they were warned of, now they are trying to find the way out by saying they can save us from the problems they got us into. If there is money in it they would sell you the rope to hang their mother.

They have a monopoly on creating genetically altered food plants. They can do whatever they want without worrying about any Government repercussions. They've been working their corrupt businesses for years under the guidance of the FDA and United Nations.

More failed science exploiting a monopoly in genetically altered crops which have been shown to be deficient in many nutrients compared to naturally harvested foods. Who's gonna stop them? Bill Gates invested $26 million into Monsanto not too long ago. Do you think maybe they have an ultimate plan with all of these genetically altered foods?

Scientific corruption at its finest!!!

So, it's OK to alter natures plants, but not OK to alter the atmosphere?

That's scientific arrogance at its finest also!!!

I would have thought that there already were varieties adapted to hot dry conditions.

A link would have been nice.

Unlike Kano, I don't think you're making it up though.

That's how AGW deniers see the rest of the world.

I take it that's a good indication of their moral values.

How about posting a link, how do we know what they are saying, you might be making this up.

They already have developed those. They do it to make money.
