Which of these sound like statements a scientist would actually say?

C and D.

For all Three.

Obviously.

Chem Flunky.

1.

b. "This means nothing"

c. "This drought is consistent with prior weather patterns in this area"

2.

b. "This means nothing"

e. "This means that Arctic ice extent is back to normal"

3

a. "This disproves AGW"

c. "This may indicate that CO2 sensitivity is somewhat less than we had previously thought"

OK. I'll play.

1. (b) As you 'saviors of the earth'say, "That is weather, not climate."

2. (b) Again, as we all learned from Kilimanjaro and the Himalayas, temperature and snow accumulation may not be directly relative. There are just too many other factors to consider.

3. (a) At least with the theory of CO2 being the stimulant.

For each scenario, a scientist would most likely answer d.

All could be C or D

These sound like statements a scientist has actually said:

Do not deny this, it was said:

Read what they say here, about droughts, (how embarrassing)

For each of these scenarios, which responses sound like what a real scientist might actually say? Select as many as you feel apply.

1. There is a severe drought in an area not normally prone to droughts.

a. "This proves AGW is true"

b. "This means nothing"

c. "This drought is consistent with prior weather patterns in this area"

d. "This drought is not consistent with prior weather patterns, and is likely to be at least in part due to warming"

e. "This drought was caused entirely by global warming"

2. A year after a record-breaking year of ice melt, Arctic sea ice returns to approximately the same value as it had the year before the record-breaking year.

Same A and B

c. "Arctic ice extent has apparently returned to the previous downward trend after an anomalous year"

d. "There are some signs that Arctic sea ice may be slowly recovering, though it is too soon to be sure"

e. "This means that Arctic ice extent is back to normal"

3. There is an apparent drop in average global surface temperature, over the short term (a few years), despite a continuing rise in atmospheric CO2 concentration.

a. "This disproves AGW"

b. "This means nothing"

c. "This may indicate that CO2 sensitivity is somewhat less than we had previously thought"

d. "This is most likely due to natural cycles such as PDO and ENSO, overwhelming the CO2 warming signal"
