Basically, because Science has no data concerning the amount of energy in the form of heat discharges into the oceans, neither of their magnitude or how they would affect the Global response of the evaporated water into the air currents and oceanic temperatures.

The silliest hypothesis is that bad weather is the result, no not Katrina in particular but hurricanes in general will be more frequent and/or possible more severe, and reducing CO2 may result in more "normal" weather, well not weather because climate and weather are not the same, but even if reducing CO2 doesn't have any noticeable effect it's mor important that we did something regardless of how futile the effort was because it makes some people feel better about themselves.

Yes Jmack - one more atom can do that. http://www.ucar.edu/learn/1_3_1.htm Effective greenhouse gases have 3 or more atoms in a molecule. The greenhouse gas molecules vibrate when they encounter long-wave radiation. The molecules vibrate around a "center" atom when there are 3 or more atoms. That vibration around the "center" is what enables greenhouse gases to intercept long-wave radiation and the radiate that energy to cause global warming. It doesn't happen effectively with O2, and N2, and Ar which is the majority of the gases in the atmosphere.

You are correct that natural sources of CO2 far outweigh the anthropogenic sources, but you are incorrect to assume that anthropogenic sources are therefore not significant. CO2 has a very long life in the atmosphere, and the gas has been accumulating for 150 years because more CO2 is emitted than the sinks can absorb. Our biosphere has evolved to be in balance - the natural release of CO2 in balanced by the uptake in the oceans and others Plants, plankton, diatoms, reefs, etc). Using fossil fuels releases CO2 that has been sequester as fossil fuel or rock that is essentially out to the cycle where it influences atmospheric concentrations and puts it back into the air. It took millions of years to remove it, but less than 200 to re-introduce it, and the concentration of the gas accumulates in the atmosphere because the half-life of CO2 is so long. That is why is is used. If the mean moves a little, the maximums and minimums have changed dramatically. Notice the global mean is based on the 1950 to 1981 mean. It has risen .55C since then and only 0.22C before that period. There have been long periods of little increase (1940 to about 1970), and even a period where it appeared that the mean global temp decreased some (1910), but the significant long term trend is up. Yes, this is right. Look up Milankovitch cycles and sunspot cycles. That is an equivocal observation and irrelevant scientifically. The natural drivers of global temperature that explain earlier variability do not explain recent temperatures. AGW theory is the only scientific explanation we have. Deniers believe that simply rejecting science without examination, research, or reason represents a scientific alternative – just like Witch Doctors reject medical science and believe that Voodoo is real science.

The warming in the last century was about equal to the previous century. The silliest hypotheses is too assume that we caused it just because you don't like fossil fuels.
