What is the status of Mann's lawsuit against Tim Ball?

Michael Mann is not exactly a typical climate scientist, but when you look at the amount of obsessive and unfounded mudslinging going on against him, it is not hard to understand why he has taken time away from his science to deal with those who have nothing better to do than insult him, and science, and the public's intelligence, whether the slingers have been funded by the fossil fuel industry (such as Tim Ball) or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Bal...

It is hard to get up-to-date info on the particular lawsuit asked about here. I suppose it has NOT been resolved yet, or there would be some reliable statement on that somewhere.

As for why the lawsuit was filed in Canada, JimZ might have forgotten that there is a lot of abiotic oil up there, and they have a lot of hockey sticks too. Or maybe he "forgot" to check where Tim Ball lives.

I find it telling that Mann would go to Canada where freedom of speech isn't guarded so closely. If Mann were smart, he would simply have ignored it. Frankly, I am glad that Ball is taking that defense. Mann probably does belong in Penn State for ..... well I guess it isn't a crime to have no sense of humor but his hockey stick was probably fraud albeit hard to prove.

I looked and looked and couldn't find anything new. Some of these cases are really slow. I am guessing Mann will try to slink away. I do love Mark Steyn. He always loves to stir the pot.

Mann refused to release his data so Mann's legal team couldn't move forward with the suit. This implies that he had no real intention of suing which means his suit was frivolous. Now he is up to his neck in lawyers.

He may be FORCED to release his data in a countersuit.

Mann greatly fears this. The Hockey Stick is pure bull and he knows it.

If his methodology for his carefully selected tree rings is exposed he will be exposed as a both a liar and an incompetent idiot.

Why don't you ask Mann, he is currently answering questions...

Tim Ball was sued in Canada by Michael Mann for saying that Mann belongs in the State Pen and not Penn State. Tim Ball refused to claim a parody of public figures defense and instead defended himself on the grounds he was making a true statement.

Another global warming scientist Andrew Weaver also sued Ball.

One skydragon site says the case is dormant, but no details.

Is this why Mark Steyn is countersuing for $10 million, to keep Mann from sulking away?

So what is the current status of the case?
