Describe how the use of fossil fuel contributes to Global Warming?

Posted at: 2015-03-12
Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. light in all forms, visible, infrared, ultraviolet, comes from the sun to the earth. Some of these are reflected by earth, some are absorbed and then re-emitted as a different form. The extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere "reflects" this energy back to earth instead of letting it go out into space. So the amount of energy staying on earth and in the atmosphere is greater than what is leaving, so the temperature rises. Some call this "climate change" because they argued for years against global warming, but, using either term, the final outcome is that the earth is getting warmer.

The two main causes of global warming are: 1.Burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) which releases carbon dioxide.

2.Deforestation, which removes the trees that take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Fossil fuel (coal, oil and natural gas) contains carbon that has been kept out of the earth's carbon cycle for millions of years. The earth has a natural greenhouse effect which has kept the temperature comfortable for man during that time.

We are now (since the Industrial Revolution 200 years ago) burning more and more fossil fuel (in industry, transport and to generate electricity). This extra carbon dioxide (CO2) is adding to the CO2 normally in the atmosphere and causing an enhanced, or accelerated greenhouse effect.

The greenhouse effect happens because greenhouse gases (any gas with at least 3 atoms) stop some of the sun's infrared radiation escaping out to space. The gases use the captured energy to produce heat. More and more of the greenhouse gases means more and more heat, all over the planet. Global warming of the planet

Burning fossil fuels releases heat and CO2.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas and traps heat in the atmosphere, causing global warming.

Pay no attention to the nonsense and the cherry picked data from the denialists.

Fossil fuels add carbon dioxide, a gas that absorbs infra-red, to the atmosphere. According to the law of conservation of energy, that causes warming.

Burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. More greehouse gases prevent some of the heat from the earth to be released in space.

Most of the heat goes into oceans, some in the land.

See nasa.gov for more info.

Burning causes the release of particulate matter into the atmosphere. This mixes with precipitation and comes down on the snow pack where it discolors the surface thus absorbing more heat from the sun.

650 million years ago volcanoes were constant.

not any more, not for a long time..

but every day human activity spews tons of greenhouse gases into the air

those who dispute this fact should be charged with crimes against humanity and the earth

Global Warming is a fallacy. The so called experts have recently change the global warming title to "Climate Change" because global warming isn't true. Also, the ozone layer is not depleting. In fact, there isn't an opening as many people claim.

Do some research.

See, burning dinosaur blood clogs the atmosphere with ancient dinosaur farts that were released during combustion.

Sagebrush here quotes a fossil fuel industry sponsored ex-weatherman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Wat... and calls people who pay attention to actual scientists "dishonest."

U.S. National Academy of Sciences, 2010:

“Climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems.”

http://www8.nationalacademies.org/onpine...

“Choices made now about carbon dioxide emissions reductions will affect climate change impacts experienced not just over the next few decades but also in coming centuries and millennia…Because CO2 in the atmosphere is long lived, it can effectively lock the Earth and future generations into a range of impacts, some of which could become very severe.”

“The Academy membership is composed of approximately 2,100 members and 380 foreign associates, of whom nearly 200 have won Nobel Prizes.

Members and foreign associates of the Academy are elected in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research; election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors that can be accorded a scientist or engineer.”

There's no evidence that that is true, clearly real world evidence and observations point to fossil fuels having no observable effect.

Describe why you think fossil fuels add to the globe's temperature.

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/10/30/ho...

This is the world's longest continuous temperature recording and it shows 0.87 degrees in 353 years. Do you have any evidence that fossil fuels played any part in that change in temperature?

So your question is scientifically premature. First of all in order to legitimately answer your question, you would have to establish the fact that there is global warming and whether that warming is due to natural cycles or to interference by man. After that, then you may proceed with your question. To do less is intellectually dishonest.

by the increased carbon dioxide emissions

Who wants to know? Just asking...

It does not.
