Riddle us this How are the PDO and AMO the causes of global warming when neither has the temperature trend? I could also play by Denier rules and point out that there is not direct empirical evidence that either the PDO or AMO existed before there was global warming.

Then you must be the only person in the world who can reliably predict when the AMO changes. In the world of science, there is not enough data to predict to the changes. For the PDO and AMO, both, we only have 2 cycles. That takes us back to about 1900. Earlier PDO and AMO indices (which are needed to identify phase shifts) are reconstructed from tree-rings.
Clearly, something changes in the 20th century, but it is not clear whether it is AMO and PDO or the tree-ring data. Since 1900, the PDO and AMO seem to be part of the same 60-year low frequency pattern with different independent high-frequency signals that cause the PDO and AMO to predictably both lead and lag each other within the dominant 60-year signal.
We cannot know if the 20th-century AMO and PDO covariance has always existed because the tree-rings do not reconstruct SST. Based on the longer records, however, there is some evidence that the period of the PDO may have changed because of AGW forcing, either directly or indirectly via ENSO which is known to affect changes in PDO. If PDO and AMO do not share the same low frequency signal, then the most likely explanation is that the AMO responds in some fashion to thermohaline ciculation.
No, 1936 was the hottest year on record, but the global average temperature has risen since then. From 1945 to 1977 the planet was cooling. Then from 1978 to 1998 the planet warmed up, since 1999 we have seen a slight decrease in the average temperature that's why you get people saying there hasn't been warming since 1998, not because it was simply a hot year.
Gary F: Riddle this. How can you name CO2 as the culprit for global warming when its level doesn't correspond to the Earth's temperature. There is no dispute that the Earth's temperature has cooled in the last decade. Yet at the same time there is no dispute that the CO2 level has risen. So using your logic you should come over to our side, the side of true logic and science.
Lin: As far as getting your woolies out, why don't you take each day as it comes? Quit trying to hype the atmosphere into something dangerous. You are alive because the atmosphere has just the right amount of each element and in its right form. Your question and subsequent comment show the reason you are rightly called alarmists by some. as CO2 goes up so does global temps . this has happened many times in history . during earths hottest period , the 100 million year carboniferous epoch , when even the arctic was tropical , the CO2 levels went as high as 363 ppm .
on 12 21 12 atmospheric CO2 hit 400 ppm and continues to rise . this is passed the point of no return . the earth WILL go into an irreversible , permanent greenhouse effect . we turn into venus 800 degrees F at noon . it will happen pretty fast . by 2023 , after 5 years of worldwide crop failures , food will be made from people ( shades of soylent green ) , by the 2030s the seas will boil off into space and humanity turns to dust . money won't help , the secret government bunkers won't help . the deniers die too .

No. We know our climate changes, we will have warm periods in the future, probably warmer than now, but at the moment with the PDO in negative phase, the AMO about to turn negative, and the sun looking like it is going to enter a quiet phase (sunspot minimum) it does'nt look like it will happen anytime soon.
Since that piece of data fits some people's preconceived idea, yes.

Does that really mean that the entire world has been cooling since?
Does 78 years of cooling mean that we're about to enter an Ice Age?
