What some people say about rising sea levels?

Posted at: 2015-03-12
From your link : "So, for example, those people in the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change], choose Hong Kong, which has six tide gauges, and they choose the record of one, which gives a 2.3 mm per year rise of sea level. Every geologist knows that that is a subsiding area. It’s the compaction of sediment; it is the only record which you should not use."

I wonder if anyone would ever think that the IP CC would ever be selective on any climate science issue that doesn't serve their agenda?

Here's another one from your link : "There’s another way of checking it, because if the radius of the Earth increases as a result of sea level rise, then immediately the Earth’s rate of rotation would slow down. That is a physical law, right?"

You gotta love this one from an expert! : "Another famous place is the Tuvalu Islands, which are supposed to soon disappear because they’ve put out too much carbon dioxide. There we have a tide gauge record, a variograph record, from 1978, so it’s 30 years. And again, if you look there, absolutely no trend, no rise.

So, from where do they get this rise in the Tuvalu Islands?"

antarcticice - Why believe in an organization that believes in depopulating the world as the United Nations does? It's sad that you even associate yourself with these people. Agenda 21 Depopulation deals with treating our water system with known destructive materials to the human body (chlorine and fluoride). Real science is finding that these 2 chemical compounds ingested into the human body causes more problems than smoking does. Have fun with your IP CC. I'm sure they are on-course with your way of thinking.

Melting of glaciers and polar ice caps: Large ice formations, like glaciers and the polar ice caps, naturally melt back a bit each summer. But in the winter, snows, made primarily from evaporated seawater, are generally sufficient to balance out the melting. Recently, though, persistently higher temperatures caused by global warming have led to greater-than-average summer melting as well as diminished snowfall due to later winters and earlier springs. This imbalance results in a significant net gain in runoff versus evaporation for the ocean, causing sea levels to rise.

DR. NILS-AXEL M?RNER is the go to guy for denial on sea level rise

Of course his views are not shared by the rest of the community he used to work with, he was in fact censured for representing himself as still linked to INQUA, the body he used to head long after he retired. As I understand it he was let go because of his increasing odd behavior.

The facts are you can quote the fantasies of M?RNER till the cows come home, satellite data shows sea level is rising, no ifs no buts no models. He also pushes water de-vining and few in science take that seriously either.

Look at the claims he makes here

"I was exceptionally surprised. First of all, it had 22 authors, but none of them―none―were sea-level specialists."

Interesting given these are the authors.

Lead Authors

Nathaniel L. Bindoff - From 2002-07 he was Associate Professor of Physical Oceanography at the University of Tasmania and the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Laboratories

Vincenzo Artale - has over 30 years’ experience of a wide range of ocean and climate research, he is specializes in ocean circulation and impact studies of climate change in the ocean, in particular in the Mediterranean Sea

Anny Cazenave - http://www.nasonline.org/member-director...

Jonathan M. Gregory - http://www.met.rdg.ac.uk/~jonathan/

Sergey Gulev - http://www.sail.msk.ru/viewuser.php?user...

Kimio Hanawa - Is a professor of Oceanography

(all from varying organisations and varying countries)

And unlike denier - the source of the names a real source not a blog.

http://www.ipcc.ch/publications_and_data...

This is not picking names at random but the first lead author and the first 5 authors, all have extensive oceanography and or sea level backgrounds, decades each in fact, so once again M?RNER has been caught telling fibs, like the fiction he claims about a shore line tree in the Maldives, he simply makes these stories up. I'm sure they play well at Heartland conferences and on denier blogs, but try asking where his peer reviewed support for these statements is and then wait for the silence.

But then you wont do that, will you!!

Perhaps M?rner decided they were the "wrong type" of oceanographer.

Like Judith Curry is the wrong type of climate scientist?

A 1 m rise of sea level will inundate 1,810 square km of land in Gujarat, 1,220 square km in West-Bengal, 670 square km in Tamil Nadu, 550 square km in Andhra Pradesh, 480 square km in Orissa, 410 square km in Maharashtra, 290 square km in Karnataka, 160 square km in Goa, and 120 square km in Kerala

"Sea-level Expert:

"It’s Not Rising!"

Obviously someone who is in the pockets of the resource industry. Land ice is melting so sea level is rising. Don't believe everything you read.

No it definitely is true. Sea levels are rising every day. Slowly but within time it'll make an impact and affect civilization. Just be as kind to the planet as possible because it is irreplaceable and priceless. GO GREEN.

Oh the heresy.

And maybe it is

maybe it is just not true?
