The link and the picture show what is happening now. Demand is low because it is just past midnight.

The UK government has lost the Energy plot. They are scared to go nuclear. The EU wants reductions in CO2 - so coal plants are being closed. Our biggest coal-fired plant is being converted to wood chips to help the environment. Wood creates more CO2 than coal. No, I do not understand either. The news from the "You can't make this stuff up department" is that the wood will come from the USA - on sailing ships. OK, you can make up some of it.

China is going to make a new nuclear powerstation for us. They have been promised twice the going rate for electricity to make it attractive.

Ed Milliband, the opposition party leader, has said that energy prices will be frozen if he comes to power. He has not explained how this magic will happen and all the would-be investors have thus been frightened off because of the uncertainty.

The government seems as if it wants to be in charge and make the rules but there is no-one nominated to be in charge. So it is like one of Stalin's 5 Year Plans without either a timescale or a plan.

My current feeling is that we will have to wait for the power cuts, endure the consequentially raised mortality rates and see if that will shock anyone into making a sensible decision.

Japan and Germany seem to be making provisions for increasing their energy supply even though it upsets the Greenies. They understand the priorities. The UK, on the other hand, lacks the necessary leadership and foresight.

A new tariff will be needed where you can be disconnected at peak times. You could then run an inverter from a battery for the peak duration and charge it when power is restored.

All the reasons for the creation of the CEGB are still valid.

As long as David Rose writes those articles, you can rest assured that there will be a whole lot of alarmism going on.

Oh! Boy! Like power failures have never happened before.
