What do you propose we should do about climate change?

First, congratulations. Ignore the deniers. That's what they do.

What has to happen is that we stop adding CO2 to the atmosphere.

To do that, stop burning fossil fuels.

The problem is that our society, world wide, is absolutely dependent on burning fossil fuels.

There is no way that we can stop in a short period of time.

We can, however, work to make that a goal.

For all countries.

Unfortunately, that is THE answer. :(

Edit: "Global Warming Doomsday Called Off"

Yeah, but global stupid is on the rise -- particularly in the US.

I see the regulars have spoken. Everybody is either a denier or a liar or both.

Look dude, you can't take one journal article as some sort of ultimate truth. The role of clouds is hotly contested among climate scientists. I really doubt if this latest bit of research with put the question to rest. But that's a thought. You could do some research on this research- see how the paper is recieved by other scientists, look for rebuttals or people pointing out mistakes. It happens. Science isn't neat and pretty and well defined.

But if global surface temperatures do increase by 4 degrees, we are all screwed. Really, the only way to stop it would be to completely eliminate our CO2 emissions. That's right, bring them to zero. Anything less will simply slow the rise.

What do you mean by human population is multiplying rapidly? According to the people who have studied it, the population will peak and start to decrease in a few decades.

They have been saying 1.5-4.5 degrees of warming for decades now. The last 15 years, not much warming. Suggests maybe we will be on the low end of that.

People have been talking about this for a long time. Why do you think they haven't? Indeed, while people were talking about it, the problem changed to be one where China, India, and other developing countries are responsible for most CO2 emissions. Good luck getting them to cut back.

We are going to do nothing because it would change the way we live. We would have to cut back on consumption, stop building, reduce the population. Plant many many trees and stop driving cars till we have electrical vehicles all sorted out.

As for there is no global warming because it was very cold this year. An ice cube doesn't make a drink colder because ice is cold (that's only a tiny part of it), it makes it cold because its melting which takes 160 times the energy to raise the temperature of ice by one degree. Cold winter in the south , normal to very warm (Alaska and Yukon) in the north , the ice caps are melting.

Use zero emission energy sources, such as solar, wind and nuclear power.

< The jurassic period saw a 2200 ppm with about 7 degrees higher temperature.>

Is that all? I thought that Earth was more like 10-20 C warmer. But if your 7 degree figure is accurate, that would mean that global warming is worse than we imagine, as many models predict 7C of warming, but I believe that these models only predict about 6m of sea level rise. During the Jurasic Period, the only ice was in high mountains.

I'm sure that the Jurasic period was at least 15C warmer than now. God would not be so cruel as to melt all the ice with only 7C of warming.

More water in the air does not equal more rain. Warming leads to fewer clouds. Fewer clouds = less rain. Where do you think rain comes from?

Nothing to gain? Climate change is a multi-billion dollar industry. The reason those cliamte scientists collect a paycheck is because of fear of climate change. The earth has warmed by a whole 0.8 degrees over the last 100 years. Sure man is causing warming, but that view you hold of "not be able to endure the heat during parts of the year" is just fear-mongering crap you were told to believe.

Ask your climate scientist friend a few questions.

1.) For all of the past data over the last 60-100 years, you are using LINEAR regression to model the past, so why are your future models exponential???

This will lead you to a discussion about positive feedbacks.

2.) So you say there are far more positive feedbacks then negative feedbacks to the point that an increase in temp caused by CO2 of 1 degree will add an additional 4 degrees from the "feedbacks". This seems to indicate that the earth is an unstable system. If it is an unstable system, then how has it managed to sustain life for the past billion years???

3.) So you say that your feedbacks come from looking at past data and surrogates like ice core data. The true test of a model is how well it acutally predicts. WHy is it that 95% of your models have overestimated the amount of warming we are currently seeing? If past performance is the best measure for future performance, then should we not expect that your models are overestimating the problem?

4.) The jurassic period saw a 2200 ppm with about 7 degrees higher temperature. Not only did life exist, but plant life thrived and was far more lush that we currently have (hence all of the fossil fuels). So aren't there decided benefits to more CO2 in the atmosphere and a warmer climate?

And yes, I do love science and have researched this far more than you have. This is why I know that this global warming is being HUGELY exagerrated. It is occurring, we should reduce our CO2, but this crap about

"-we may not be able to endure the heat during parts of the year

-the shortages in drinking water could lead to wars

-huge health impacts "

is just a load of BS.

In fact, the entirety of the reason for saying exponential warming is that they beleive more H2O will be in the air. More rain does not equal wars over drinking water.

Over population does that, global warming does not.

Cliamte realist. Honestly, if you are going to try to continue to "correct" only to have me once again show you incorrect, do not blame me for not believing a word you say.

And BTW, when the Jurassic period had 2200 ppm, and was only around 7 degrees warmer, I highly doubt your 3-5 degree from raising CO2 to 600 ppm. Try 1 degree.

Further, you want to justify your stupidity??? You really want to talk about droughts and plant life dying out based upon warmer periods in the past??? Do you buttercup???

I propose we stop dumping additional CO2 into the atmosphere. [1]

Sagebrush is lying once again. Tom McElmurry is not a meteorologist, he was 40 or 50 years ago, now he is an evangelist minister trying to sell books and DVDs about the coming of the Anti-Christ. [2]

Quotes by Sagebrush (who frequently quotes Nazi's to further his cause)

"Execute all those who voted for OBAMA",

"Sustainability is a codeword for communism",

"Hire the handicapped, they are fun to watch"'

"Justice and equality are codewords for communism",

"God has his hand on the thermostat".

Yes you are absolutely right, and the longer we delay the worse it will get and the more expensive it will become. There is no one single solution, but we must be looking at strategies to reduce our overall energy requirement, to develop clean energies, develop other areas such as afforestation, soil carbon management, etc, etc. We must also develop strategies to mitigate the effects of increasing population. The science is happening but we must see governments doing much, much more. What we don't need are contrarians and deniers with nothing of value to contribute hampering the efforts of the vast majority.

See: http://www.climatecouncil.org.au/

Hmm 97% of climate model have grossly overestimated temperature rise, climate models have seriously failed and by no means have reflected reality, not one model predicted 17yrs without a significant teamperature rise is possible, but thats what we got.

Warmth and CO2 are conducive to life, life and biodiversity thrives in the tropics, but not near the poles, global cooling would kill billions through starvation.

Check out what it was like when it was warmer, google the "holocene optimum"

Is this the climate change you are worried about http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/04/01/it...

What global warming? It's been cooling for at least 12 years.

Top climate scientists say there is no man-made Global Warming.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

Scientific models have predicted that the average global temperature of the world is going to increase by 4 degrees by 2100

this could have a HUGE impact on our lives

-some places may have water shortages

-we may not be able to endure the heat during parts of the year

-the shortages in drinking water could lead to wars

-huge health impacts

http://www.smh.com.au/environment/climate-change/climate-change-planet-to-warm-by-4-degrees-by-2100-20131231-304nw.html

also the human population is multiplying rapidly

why is this not everywhere? i understand that people are selfish, that people do not believe that this is true, but if we keep ignoring this, we could be in big trouble

my question is, environment experts...what is the best case scenario?.....what do we need to do as a human population to save ourselves?

lets think big scale

its time people starting talking about this, seeing this, knowing this

The best scenario, and the most likely based on past performance, is that alarmists will be proved wrong again and the warming they predict will fizzle and amount to squat. Also, I would advise you to take web sites like the one you linked to with a grain of salt.

"the reason i believe global warming is real is that scientists have told me, in person, that it is real"

Don't let anyone know where you live or you will have a line of snake oil salesmen lined up for miles.

Quote by Will Happer, Princeton University physicist, former Director of Energy Research at the Department of Energy: “I had the privilege of being fired by Al Gore, since I refused to go along with his alarmism....I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect....Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science. The earth's climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past.”

Heed what real proven scientists have to say.

Quote by James Spann, American Meteorological Society-certified meteorologist: "Billions of dollars of grant money [over $50 billion] are flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon. No man-made global warming, the money dries up. This is big money, make no mistake about it. Always follow the money trail and it tells a story."

Quote by Tom McElmurry, meteorologist, former tornado forecaster in Severe Weather Service: “Governmental officials are currently casting trillions down huge rat hole to solve a problem which doesn’t exist....Packs of rats wait in that [rat] hole to reap trillions coming down it to fill advocates pockets....The money we are about to spend on drastically reducing carbon dioxide will line the pockets of the environmentalists....some politicians are standing in line to fill their pockets with kick back money for large grants to the environmental experts....In case you haven’t noticed, it is an expanding profit-making industry, growing in proportion to the horror warnings by government officials and former vice-presidents.”

But better than that, research the truth yourself. It is easy since you have the internet. Here is a good place to start. It is written by a proven true engineer and scientist.

Take each point of argument and attempt to prove him wrong. By doing this you will increase your knowledge and won't have to go by hearsay evidence.

I am not by any means saying Rutan is the ultimate, but this document is a good starting point due to its clarity and basic principles.

Learn for yourself and don't be afraid of the truth. You owe it to yourself not to take mine or anyone else's words at face value.

You mean global warming? We should celebrate it because it's going to make all life on earth much better

I propose that we ignore nonsense that doesn't exist
