Reducing Food Wastages?

Ask Michelle Obama about the subject. She is the Queen of waste. Her strongly enforced school lunches went in the trash, for the most part.

Get the government out of the mass food distribution programs. There are cases where people collect food from the government and trade it in, only to be sent to other countries. Apparently, they didn't need the food in the first place.

I managed several apartment complexes, one time. A couple off them were HUD housing. Every day about eleven o'clock a government food program would deliver a bunch of little brown boxes. Most of the contents of those boxes wound up in the swimming pool within a half an hour. Not only was it wasteful, We had to change the swimming pool's water often, because the filters couldn't keep up.

I am all for helping people get food, if they need it. But routinely forcing people to eat what some plutocrat thinks is healthy is not the answer.

Get the government out of the mass food distribution business is a big start.

Ways to Reduce Wasted Food:

>Shop your refrigerator first! Cook or eat what you already have at home before buying more.

>Plan your menu before you go shopping and buy only those things on your menu.

>Buy only what you realistically need and will use. Buying in bulk only saves money if you are able to use the food before it spoils.

>Be creative! If safe and healthy, use the edible parts of food that you normally do not eat. For example, stale bread can be used to make croutons and beet tops can be sautèed for a delicious side dish.

>Nutritious, safe, and untouched food can be donated to food banks to help those in need.

>Freeze, preserve, or can surplus fruits and vegetables - especially abundant seasonal produce.

>At restaurants, order only what you can finish by asking about portion sizes and be aware of side dishes included with entrees. Take home the leftovers and keep them for your next meal.

>At all-you-can-eat buffets, take only what you can eat.

Compost food scraps rather than throwing them away.

Food waste only exists in the minds of bureaucrats who produce for profit ,we say we dont produce enough food to feed people but rather than supply the food to them we dump it or compost it to keep prices and demand high We pay farmers not to farm and have fields produce nothing

So the best way to stop wasting it is to get it to the people who need it through fair pricing and increased production and supply and stop deliberately throwing it away

If you are having too much food coming into your household, and a lot of it spoils, then I would reevaluate the situation. But, any food that does get to the soil at the dump site, if the worms get it, they create air pockets in the soil. But I think we should be feeding middle class workers too. I think they work hard and deserve it. And to give it to them in good neighbor gestures and not to abuse their privacy.

Hello, is there anyone with information on food technology and global food wastage? I was required to write a report on food wastages but can't find much info on the web.

PS: It will be good if there are any recommendations to curb the problem or any sources to it. Thank you in advance
