The fact is scientists didn't predict an ice age was imminent (back in 1977) which is the date on your time cover, that is a denier myth as can be seen in answers like Jim Z's (who sadly claims to be a scientist, but quite clearly is not) there was no consensus of a coming iceage back in the 70's and even if there had been such an event would not happen over a couple of decades but take thousands of years, but denier don't have enough of a grasp of the science to understand that.

There was certainly a cool period from the 1940's to the 1970's at the time scientists where not sure what that meant was it the start of some sort of prolonged cooling or a short term event. Time and much better instruments, for gathering data, have answered that question, as have the actual temps measured since the 70's.

There never was a consensus back in the 70's as even then many scientists thought warming due to CO2 was happening but deniers don't like to admit that because their wobbly conspiracy theories fall apart and they know it.

Take a look through the scientific papers of the time, and you can see many papers on CO2 and warming even back in the 70's. There is a reason why deniers use only this "Time" link for this claim, because that is about all they have to back the claim.

The claim of scientific consensus on "global cooling in the 70's", is a fine example of how well deniers try to alter the truth, as they try to do with many of their absurd theories and conspiracies.

That denier keep trying to reuse these lies even after they have been shown up, tells me all I need to know about deniers, they are most certainly not skeptics.

As I said deniers are liars by trade, let's see if any have the honesty to admit the cover is a fake and distance themselves from it, I doubt it !

Alarmists don't care about the mistakes they made in the past. 50 years ago they tried to use the climate to get rid of the hated petroleum but they don't want to be bothered with their past failed predictions and hypocrisy. It is pretty comical that they blame both an ice age and catastrophic warming on the same thing. I have learned long ago that urban leftists tend to want to be the saviors of the planet but all they end up being is the destroyers of our prosperity and freedom yet they don't learn very well from past mistakes.

Do you mean this TIME magazine? Check out Gilbert Plass' interview in '53 about global warming. It was in the science section of May 25, 1853, titled "Invisible Blanket".

"In 1953 Plass told Time Magazine of his work on the effects of CO2 from industrial sources as a greenhouse gas, and the potential implications of an increased concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for global warming. He said "At its present rate of increase, the CO2 in the atmosphere will raise the earth's average temperature 1.5° Fahrenheit every 100 years. ... for centuries to come, if man's industrial growth continues, the earth's climate will continue to grow warmer"

That one is a FAKE. It is the April 9,2007 cover about global warming, Photo shopped and labeled April 3, 1977.

The extreme climate does cause a period of ice cold in each year. You can select a place in South Hemisphere to escape from the cold: Australia or South America. South Africa is not so stable at this moment (due to political corruption and crime).

Back in the '70s, some scientific studies suggested that we could be causing global cooling. For each study that looked at continuing global cooling, 6 predicted the global warming we later saw.

Stupidity seems to have worked for you so far; so, I'd keep going with what you are good at.

Watch the old "In Search Of" series with Leonard Nimoy narrating...back in the 70's many of the warnings from scientists were of a coming new Ice Age...even with rising CO2 emissions which should have raised global temps....the conjecture being due to weaker sunspot activity.
