Yeah, I'm with you hoping for a wet winter. That hope is more than just this year. There have been hypotheses that the blocking pattern that caused this drought -- the most intense drought in the history of the state -- was caused by ocean currents or solar activity. A rainy year would be evidence that indeed it was a temporary natural cause. The other hypothesis in the research literature is that the blocking pattern is related to the slowing of the jet stream which is caused by the loss of Arctic ice which is caused by global warming which is permanent. There is a lot of evidence that global warming will lead to significantly less rain -- permanently -- in California and the Southwest. A few years of heavy and/or normal rain would ease those fears of a permanent change having already arrived.
Don't know how much it will help but theres a chance this Christmas child may be twins!

I am in Texas, and I want RAIN, RAIN, RAIN! Our reservoirs are less than 1/3 full and there are water use restrictions in place.
