How do i by pass the ballest on a 4' t8 Fluorescent light fixture to install led tubes?

If it is a direct replacement using 120 vac or 220 vac do this.

1. Make sure the light has no power.

2. Remove covers.

3. Coming in to the fixture will be three wires (probably)

Green is GROUND, leave that one alone.

Black is power, disconnect it.

White is neutral, disconnect it.

4. Disconnect the ballast (The big heavy box inside the fixture.) and remove it. If there is a starter (asually a little cylinder like object that you twist and remove.) remove that also.

5. Take the Black wire and hook it to the one end socket. (if there are two wires coming out of it hook both wires to the black one.)

6. Take the White wire and hook it to the other end socket. (same procedure for two wires.)

7. Install your lamp or bulb.

8. Turn on your power and the light should light.

9. Turn off power and replace covers.

Your light should be fully functional.

You are going to need a completely new power supply. Fluorescent tubes require high voltages to operate thus the reason for the transformer and ballast. LEDs do not. In fact you could calculate the voltage drop per LED and divide that by your line current to determine the number of LEDs that you would need to work with your line voltage. You would also need to calculate the value of the resister needed to limit current flow.

Here is a simple online LED array design calculator that I sometimes use:

I wouldn't recommend using any part of the fluorescent tube power supply for LEDs.

Hi Toot, I saw on Ebay replacement led tubes for fluorescent. They wire in direct to 230volts so the dropper is in the fitting that you buy.

Here's how: http://www.lightingwill.com/cat/t8-led-f...

I'm getting ready to do the same.

gie me 2mins

I want to replace the 8 t8 Fluorescent Tubes in kitchen. with leds. I a need to remove the ballast so I can install the led tubes. How do I remove the ballast and is it hard to do? And can use just 1 tube in a two tube fixture?
