Who sponsered the AGU meeting on climate change?

you gotta laugh. http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2013/general-information/thank-you-to-our-sponsors/

The American Geophysical Union meeting covers much more than climate change. I believe it is the largest non-medical scientific meeting in the U.S. I wasn't able to attend this year, but it's not surprising that oil companies sponsor the meeting--geophysical techniques are the primary way that oil is found. I'm sure the oil companies have been sponsoring the meeting since before AGW was even an issue. I first attended the meeting in 1980, and I'm fairly certain they had a large presence then, too.

Are you trying to make the point that oil companies are pro-AGW? That seems absurdly naive.

Big oil doesn't really believe all the hype they create, and they are rational enough to know that their continued success at finding energy reserves depend on good geophysical research. Some oil companies are also funding alternative energy sources in an effort to keep their options open. If it is profitable, it is just a good business investment.

So what? They contribute to both Republicans and Democrats, as well.

And – this is cheap advertizing and a little PR.

The “Gold Investment” of $15,000 gets you:

- One (1) time e-blast to AGU Fall Meeting attendee mailing list (content must be provided in HTML format and be approved by AGU).

- One (1) 30-minute complimentary Product Theater Demo at the Fall Meeting.

- Half (?) page four (4) color ad in the AGU 2013 Program.

- Quarter (?) page four (4) color ad in the issue of Eos available at the Fall Meeting.

- Six (6) full conference registrations to the AGU Fall Meeting.

- Sponsor recognition sign for display in your exhibit booth.

- Sponsor ribbons for all exhibit booth staff.

- Prominent logo recognition on “Thank You to Our Sponsors” panels located near the poster hall and the exhibit hall.

- Hyperlinked logo recognition on the Fall Meeting Web site “Thank You to Our Sponsors” page.

- Prominent logo recognition in the Program Book “Thank You to Our Sponsors” ad.

- Logo recognition as a sponsor in the Eos Fall Meeting highlights pullout printed in early 2014.

- Logo recognition as a sponsor of the Fall Meeting in the 2013 AGU Annual Report.

"... but what's the point and how does who sponsored it have anything to do with GW?"

It seems to matter every time a warmy mentions Big Oil. Just take a look at sourcewatch where they tell you what to think: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Exx...

Cognitive dissonance? Nah, I never heard anything so ridiculous!

Still, the good news is that anything the AGU now says or does can be rubbished instantly without even thinking about it.

Yes, and oil companies are also part of the review process for the IPCC.

Do you know what the AGU organization is? http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2013/general-...

I've already ordered my special glasses where the BP graphic turns into a WWF panda and Exxon is an acronym for Friends of the Earth.

It was either that or get the AGW plugin for Firefox which allows you to view any web page and get a pro-AGW message regardless of the content. That seemed like overkill to me.

Probably the members who attend. Is is after all a membership organization, but what's the point and how does who sponsored it have anything to do with GW
