If it's oil and gas than people would have to switch to economic cars that run on electricity, but if it is something major like water resources than companies would most likely be built in order to purify salt water faster. Or scientist might find a way to shrink the population of humans so not as much resources are needed.

Chaos, riots and war. What happens if energy is exhausted? No tires for your car or other vehicles. The majority of your tire is made of synthetic rubber(oil). Those farm equipment in the Mid-West need tires and fuel(oil), they will no longer run, so food will be in short supply. No transporting of the grain to factories(no tires/fuel) or deliveries to the grocery stores. A large part of your vehicle is now made of plastic(oil) and many of the containers for food is made from plastics(oil). Without any energy your house, workplace will not function. A policy to explore all energy, including oil, is needed. CHAOS

Like oil and gas? Nothing much. By then mankind will have mastery of alternative methods for energy generation and will be obtaining the compounds for organic chemicals from plants and coal.

I find it funny that denialist are afraid to convert to clean energy now, whe it will be far worse if we wait for oil to run out. As far as the supposed controversy about global warming; the real question is about whether we cook or we freeze when we run out of oil. And denialists claim that we should be more afraid of cooling.

If the readily available becomes scarce, then the willingly ready seeks that which surceases the disparity and that bold force is innocent of economic malaise.
