What factors do scientists believe cause the predictable, long-term climate change cycles of the past?

You can use a point of view neutral site like wikipedia [1] for your answer or even the American Institute of Physics which has a nice write up on their web site. [2]

To understand climate change, the obvious first step would be to explain the colossal coming and going of ice ages. Scientists devised ingenious techniques to recover evidence from the distant past, first from deposits left on land, then also from sea floor sediments, and then still better by drilling deep into ice. These paleoclimatologists succeeded brilliantly, discovering a strangely regular pattern of glacial cycles. The pattern pointed to a surprising answer, so precise that some ventured to predict future changes. The timing of the cycles was apparently set by minor changes in sunlight caused by slow variations of the Earth's orbit. Just how that could regulate the ice ages remained uncertain, for the climate system turned out to be dauntingly complex. In particular, it turned out that"greenhouse" gases like carbon dioxide played a surprisingly powerful role in governing global climate. One lesson was clear: the system is delicately poised, so that a little stimulus might drive a great change.

Quotes by nazi lover Sagebrush; "Hire the handicapped, they are fun to watch!", "Justice and equality are codewords for communism" and "Execute all those who voted for OBAMA"

The Earth wobbles on it's axis changing where the Earth's equator centers... That's a 25,000 year situation. Land masses change position on the Earth's surface changing ocean currents and thus heat distribution... that's over the course of millions of years. Volcanic activity has had interesting effects, as have the impact of extra-solar objects. The movement of continents create mountain ranges in the course of millions of years. That effect wind currents, and the Sun's output varies over the course of tens of thousands of years. There are other systems and sub-systems within these macro systems, some moving the planet toward 'cooling', and some for warming. All of these tend to play out over 'geological time'.

Currently there should be a cooling trend, but the effect of massive amounts of CO2 entering our paper thin atmosphere over the course of less than 200 years of 'historical time' has managed to sidetrack these 'natural' inputs. At this point the excess retained heat moves rapidly from 'warm atmosphere' to colder ice and ocean water. This is why the atmosphere has warmed only slightly, or for periods of time the uptake of heat energy in the world's ice fields equals the excess atmospheric heat index...thus little or no change in atmospheric temperatures. The ice melts as it absorbs the excess heat.... just like the ice in your beer cooler cools your beer. the beer gets cold, the ice melts... drink up!

And no...there's no 'more ice' now....the area in question is composed of broken and melting drifting ice....not a solid hard edged artic ice field.

True scientists can only speculate on some changes, since there wasn't instrumentation back then. Most of it was caused by changes in the earth's physical surface, that we know.

If they can't explain it (and they don't want to) with their superior intelligence, then they figure no one can. So it must be man who has changed the course of history. So they hop on CO2 spewing jets and go off to far off places and frequent the red light districts and blame us peons for changing the climate and pat themselves on the back for their intelligence. And it is on our dime. They make money doing this. They don't need to rationalize factors, they just need to crank up their PR machine.

Joseph Goebbel,

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

They have a good thing going and they will throw anyone under the bus who gets in their way.

The predictable long term climate change cycles of the past were caused by the Milankovich Cycles.

Changes in solar activity and volcanic activity also contributed to past climate change, but they are much less predictable than the Milankovich Cycles.

Mostly the Sun.

Because natural climatic forcings have been trending in the wrong direction to explain recent warming.

Milankovitch cycles, Solar cycles, and all the different ocean phenomena like PDO AMO Ensa and so on, they say they it cannot be explained by natural forces, they also have no evidence that it was caused by CO2.

climate is not possible to predict

there is no natural cause for 40% of the acceleration of GW since 80

in that day they observe and they imagine what will happen in future.

What factors do scientists believe cause the predictable, long-term climate change cycles of the past? What natural factors do scientists believe account for up to 40% of the climatic variation since 1890, and why do scientists believe that current warming trends cannot be explained by natural climatic forces?
