*avoiding all animal products
*getting as much food out of supermarket bins as I can (otherwise it goes into landfill, and the nutrients required to produce the foods are lost)
*avoiding buying things I don't need
*buying second hand items when I need them (if I can get them used)
*trying to buy only locally produced items and foods
*volunteering with wildlife organisations
*trying to help educate others by sharing information. right now I'm developing a short film project to explain why we need to use or compost ALL food scraps and not let any go to landfill.
Things I have done in the past but can't right now (because of where I live):
*compost all kitchen scraps
*recycle water from shower/bath to use in washing machine/toilet etc
*riding a bike/using public transport instead of driving (I no longer live in a big city where this is an option all the time but I still could ride more than I currently do)
Things I hope to do in the future:
*work in conservation with local wildlife
*live somewhere with a garden so I can compost again and grow some of my own foods
*buy unused farm land to restore lost habitat for local species
*have a green energy source such as solar and/or wind powered generator
*have a diesel vehicle which can run on a blend of diesel and recycled vegetable oils
*get my film picked up and televised or distributed nationally
*If I win the lottery I'll invest in algae production for a sustainable food and fuel resource
I'm developing a sustainable homeplace under "extreme affordability" guidelines, including satisfying my power and heating requirements without using fuels. For me, being selfish means saving money and I prefer to do it in such a way that it improves my (and everyone else's) environment at the same time.
Turning lights and tv off when I'm done or out of the room ride my bike on a nice day and I know this might sound crazy but I only flush a limited amount of times a day
I'm not powerful enough to do anything to the environment one way or the other.... I'm not helping or hurting it, I'm just a tiny little part of it.
To the first answer: Not only are you ignorant but you're also a moron.
It is "I couldn't care less" NOT "I could care less" - to be able to care less means that you do actually care... dipsh*t.
Anyway... I recycle, I use energy saving light bulbs, always turn off the mains before I go to bed, have a water saving toilet flush and I don't have a car - I use public transport.
I don't pollute the environment
I like to complain about people driving SUV, capitolism, greed, and religious views. I like to point out how a vast majority of people around the world believe we are causing global warming, and how a small minority group of of deniers are being paid by big oil to stop progress on doing anything to stop global warming from occurring. I am waiting for the government to force everyone to reduce consumption through higher taxes instead of making a conscious decision to look at my own lifestyle and reduce my own use.
I like to claim that in order to fix the problem we should force people to pay higher prices for fossil fuels and use that money to give to underdeveloped nations (because they've been left behind, robbed of their resources, impacted the most by man induced climate change, while the rest of the world prospers), subsidies the poor so they can afford to use fossil fuels, subsidies to government approved alternative energy sources regardless of any evidence that they can produce what they say they can or whether or not that product meets our needs or improves the environment.
I think we need to scare people into believing that bad things happen because of man-made global warming and when someone points out that there is a history of evidence that those things occur because of A, B and/or C despite mans influence, I like to make unsupported claims that they are now more extreme and more frequent because of AGW. I like believe fictional movies like "An Inconvient Truth" and "Earth 2100" are actually scientifically supported documentaries. If someone claims something is counter-intuitive I like to say but it isn't really, when climate scientist predictions fail I like to point out that the predictions fall within the ambiguous claims and are well within the high level of uncertainty.
We can fix global warming, we simply need someone smarter than us to force the solution on us.
I planted trees, I do not use more plastic bags as it cannot be disposed, I do not waste water and food
remove polythene, plant trees, save water, don't make high sounds, save every insect.
Biding my time.
Telling the truth about those lying alarmist scam artists.
Nothing. I could care less.
